Hi! The I-129F instructions states that you should have met within 2 years of filing the petition:

You may file this petition if: You and your fiancé(e) intend to marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e) entering the United States, and are both free to marry, and
have met in person within two years before your filing of this petition

You can check the instructions here - http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

My fiance (now husband) and I only met twice before we filed our I-129F petition too. Before filing, we first met in June 2008 then the last time we were together was December 2008 to the first few days of January 2009. We filed in February 2009. Our petition was approved without any RFEs in 47 days from our NOA date. :)

While you have met the requirements of having met in person at least once in the past two years, it is very IMPORTANT you keep emails, chat logs, phone records to show you have maintained the relationship with your fiancee. This is what is most important to the CO at the Embassy. If you do have an opportunity to visit each other again, take a lot of pictures in different places, maybe with some relatives also in the photos.

Good Luck.

In 47 days??? How did you do that? Do you know somebody high up in a political office? Is your fiancee/husband on active duty in the military ?

The waiting is hard; it gives you months and months to worry about what might go wrong in the process. But reading on VJ forums will arm you with some idea of what to expect in the next stages, and how other people have solved problems that, hopefully, won't happen to you anyway :P

I've had a photocopy of the I-129F we sent off in Nov. sitting in a drawer, and it's hard sometimes not to pull it out and agonize over every "N/A", wondering if it should've been a "none". But try to keep busy, and think of hobbies or things you've always wanted to try but haven't before. Soon(ish), you'll be getting ready to move on over to the US (or welcome your partner, if you're the USC) and all this will be behind you. I keep telling myself "we only have to do this once!"

Best of luck!

In my case, my then-fiance (now husband) didn't show me a photocopy of the final I-129F that he mailed until after the petition was already approved (we filled it out together during the last time we were together in the Philippines but there were some blocks that we left blank because we wanted to make sure all the info was correct before filing). LOL. All he told me was that everything was good and I shouldn't worry. It did help keep me from worrying too much. I just did my best to keep busy and spent as much time as I could with my family... I'm glad I did because I really do miss them terribly. My husband and I can't wait to visit!

Last February/March CSC was going through petitions like crazy. There were some that got through in 30 days. Then came April and the H1B visa's due dates and they slowed down again. Went from people getting approved in 30-60 days to around 90-110. The 2 service centers jump around in how fast they go quite often.

Audy_Rob is right! Be sure to keep everything that will prove that you have a bona fide relationship.

I know! We were really surprised! We expected to wait a couple of months at least. My husband was and still is active duty in the Army so that might have something to do with it but we didn't do anything to expedite it. @_@ I think they really were just working pretty fast that month? There was another couple who filed AFTER us and their I-129F was approved in 30 days (fiance wasn't in the military)!

Dear all,

I know this might be totally silly to you,but is there a chance to get a visa rejection only because my fiance and I met only 2 times in 2009. I work for an airline and today I found out that I am laid off. We still have a chance to meet in Canada or Europe, and I can have discounted but stand-by tickets for Air Canada for example to fly to meet Scotty in Vancouver, but from the 1st May I won't have that chance anymore. Scotty has some sort of 50-50 chances of being laid off too, so I don't want to risk his job especially because we have not obtained our NOA2.

Can a CO possibly tell us his/her decision is negative simply because we met for the last time in Nov,2009? Scotty thinks that according to information in I-129F it is written we MUST meet at least twice, so we are on a safe side, but I am freaked out that stubborn Moscow CO might say no to me!

What are our chances? Any advice is appreciated!

You're fine. I was in the same situation. Zhanna is sitting right next to me now :)

They can. They probably won't. I know lots of Russian (Moscow) couples that have met only once and been successful. Your chances are as good as you make them. Provide plenty of evidence of relationship and they are 100%.

Who is the USC? The employment situation of the foreign fiancee will not matter in the process. The US citizen needs to show he has a means to support his fiancee at the time of the interview. Moscow accepts co-sponsors.

I was just thinking the same thing if there is a chance that the US citizen could not have a job then it might be a good idea to start preparing for a cosponser. Here is a thread that has links to the poverty guidelines for the affidavit of support I134. There are other threads on the cosponser process.
