As construction has taken a nose dive here I have noticed a marked decrease, I have even seen a number of their business close down, more so than on average.

I also attribute this to the new DMV laws which prevent them from driving legally, if they are caught they are now finger printed and identified, compounding their problems when they skip Court and are pulled over at another time.

Mirroring a nationwide trend, California’s illegal-immigrant population dropped to 2.6 million, from 2.8 million during this same period, according to the report, which is based on census data. The only state to see its number of undocumented residents go up during this time was Georgia, which went from 460,000 to 480,000.

The report cautioned that changes made to the census survey could have affected the results.

Some researchers said that the drop is because fewer illegal immigrants were entering the country.

But others disagree, saying the decline is largely due to undocumented immigrants either voluntarily leaving or being deported.

I'd include Georgia based on our county. It's anedotal but I've seen Hispanic restaurants closed and a nurse at the hospital told me they aren't seeing too many Hispanic babies lately. The poor economy and the local detention facility for illegal immigrants have gotten their attention.

i agree that it won't last forever. but, with palin being the unofficial spokesperson, i don't think good things are in store for the dems. she will encourage tea party backers to vote GOP. the tea party movement leans farther right than left.
