my fiance is still looking for an attorney to process our visa...

Unless you have some complex issues, most here will say an attorney is NOT NEEDED for your visa. When I first met my fiancee' (now wife!) and began to look into the K1 visa process I was overwhelmed by the amount of documents and information required. But as I read and began to understand the process, I found that it was not as bad as it seemed. The guides here will show you step by step and the people here who have just finished our JOURNEY will give advice and guidance where needed. IT IS NOT AS DAUNTING AS IT SEEMS! LOL

Which ever path you take, whether attorney or DIY, good luck, read the guides and ask questions.

USCIS processes your visa petition. An attorney takes your money to fill in forms.

Only you know the depth of your own knowledge or willingness and/or ability to research requirements. It is not an unreasonable option to pay for someone else's knowledge or expertise. However, if you opt to use an attorney, don't just shop for the lowest price--you usually get the quality that you pay for. Shop for an attorney with recent experience dealing with the type of application you will be filing and with the consulate that you will be dealing with.

Translation:

You don't need an attorney = I am making a personal judgement regarding your knowledge and capability and I'm willing to risk your future with my advice.

Too bad he doesn't want to save the money for use on you.

Biggest waste of $1600 we ever spent. Lawyers are very willing to take your money at the start but extremely unwilling to return phone calls when you have questions!

Couldn't have said it better. I would add that many would simply rather use their valuable time earning a living or visiting their foreign loved one than to learn the ins and outs of immigration for themselves.

That I did it myself doesn't mean everybody else can or should.
