Anyone out there in (or knows their way around) Dallas, TX?

My husband has a job as an over-the-road trucker. Early this morning, someone broke into his truck and stole his vest containing his Canadian passport. He's at a truck stop on the edge of Dallas right now, and there's a Canadian Consulate located downtown that he would need to go to to start the process of getting a replacement. Problem is, the only way he can get there is by driving his truck, and he can't just park anywhere with that kind of vehicle.

The address of the Consulate is 750 North St. Paul Street. Does anyone who is familiar with the area know where he might be able to park his truck? I don't believe there's a trailer attached to it right now. The closer to the Consulate he can park, the better. I plan on calling the Consulate on Monday and asking them but wanted to see if anyone else might have any ideas and be able to calm my nerves a bit.

Thanks so much for your help. I've been terribly sick over this all day.

Not sure about the walk about 2 miles but there is a Knox truck stop Knox Fuel Stop (214) 651-8927 2221 Irving Blvd, Dallas, TX that is about as close as you can get as a truck stop. Maybe a city bus from there ?

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

They do have Taxis in the Dallas area. Honest to God they do.

I know, but we're really trying to avoid that since he's about 11 miles away from the Consulate and we're going to have a hard enough time coming up with the money for the new passport. Thank you, though. :)

Ok then. Then I suggest to park as close as possible and on a side street that is seldom traveled and hope he can get back to the truck before it is towed away and that costs about 450 dollars plus the fine. I see he has lost his wallet before and had to replace things valuable. Pretty unlucky dude there. That Knox truck stop is known as a place where trucks get broken into a lot also so make sure he takes his valuables with him.

The closest shopping mall is about 3 miles due east from the center of downtown - he can park there, pick up the train from there - or

go through downtown, via the hwy, head west, and get off - there's a huge area for truck servicing on the west side of town, running north-south.

look here - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...025363&z=16

'Outside of Dallas' could mean anything - lets assume south o Dallas for the moment

For the west routing - come up 45 N, it merges into 75 North, swing round left - west to 366 - cross OVER 35 - the next exit is Industrial Parkway -

take that exit, go North - Park the truck anywhere - it's about a 1 mile walk from there, headed east - or he can get a taxi via telephone.

North of Dallas - coming south on 75 -

take the Lemmon Street Exit - turn left - east - cross 75. You'll see a Target Store on the left - park there.

The TRAIN station is right next to the freeway, about a 1100 ft walk - the train will take him downtown.

North of Dallas - coming south on 77 / 35 -

take the 429B exit - rt on Continental, rt on Industrial Parkway - park the truck anywhere there,

then walk a bit to the Consulate.

Alternatively - he can park in the First United Methodist Church Parking Lot on Monday Morning -

and it's the next building over.

Let me know if you can't see the map in da Google mapping thingie .

Good Luck !

I'd highly recommend checking and making sure that he's allowed to park anywhere other than a truck stop. Rigs are a target for towing companies. I had to pay $800 after mine was towed from a shopping mall.

Everything luckytxn has said about the truck stops in Dallas is true.

Good luck and God bless truckers. I'm EXTREMELY thankful I'm not behind the wheel anymore.

Take Rte 75 downtown, take the Woodall Rogers exit west and the first exit from that (Pearl St.) It is immediately after entering the Woodall Rogers Exprwy. Turn left. There are a number of surface parking lots in the area around Pearl and Jackson St that will be empty on Sunday and they do not collect payment on Sunday. Park in one of them. Walk west on Jackson or San Jacinto st. to St paul. It is just a few blocks.
