My point was...whether near her or far away, there's a great community of support here & just cos we're close by doesn't mean we can't be an effective support system.

Try putting an ad in Craigs List under the 'strictly platonic' section. Thats what I did and I have found four friends out of it, two British girls and two German girls who live about 20 minutes away from me. Its great, I was so depressed cause I didnt have any female friends around here and now I do!

thanks for all the tips and replies.. i did put an ad on craigslist and i found someone that didnt read my ad too well, was like 1.5 hours away.. things just didnt work out.. maybe i should just wait till i start working..mabye get some connections through there.. man its tough living in a new country not knowing anyone..

Another suggestion is meetup.com Look for groups in your area that have meetups. We belong to a Brit Expats group that meets once a month at least, we belong to a Dining Out meet up group that has several meet ups a month, and then I belong to a Book Club meet up group...but I've not been to any of their meetings yet...waiting for a book I'm interested in. You can meet people who are interested in just about everything on there.
