Hi all,

After the USPS screwed up and I sent the package again, USCIS received it on 12/31. They cashed the check 01/06. But still no NOA. I feel like a child on Christmas Eve. Every evening I go to my mail box, hoping to find a NOA, but last Thursday... nothing. Last Friday... nothing. And to my surprise, last Saturday... nothing either!

How do they send it? By mule? Can't take that long from VT to AL?!

Am I simply doomed? Unlucky? Punished by nature? Everybody else who submitted their stuff around the same time got their NOA already.

Anything I can do? Besides, when they cashed the check, this means that they accepted my package, right?

Regards,

Oban

I would say that since the cashed your check - they accepted receipt of your package :)

You might be doomed - but think positive !

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

We never got the NOA with the extension. We waited until we got the biometrics appointment notice to know what our case number was. Once we had the case number, we were able to get Marlene's passport stamped showing the extension (I-551 stamp).

When you pay the fee with a check, they stamp your case number behind the check. I was able to see my case number through the Bank of America web page that allow us to see the image of the check after cashed.

Good luck in your process!

That is a great idea to look at the check for the case number.

My problem is: I will need some sort of proof that my status is extended prior to 02/23... otherwise I will run into trouble with my employer!

There is a number written on the check, but it is so hard to read. If I would have an example of how a case looks like, this would help. Not sure if it is secure if I post a partial picture of the check here...

They cashed your cheque on the 6th and you're worried that you haven't gotten the NOA yet? You're a little eager my friend...today is the 11th and that's only 2 business days since then. Some have gotten the NOA before the cheque showed as cashed, others have not. I'd wait a week before getting too excited.

Hi Oban,

Since this is a holiday period, things might take a little longer than usual. I'll speak from experience, I received my NOA a few days after the check cleared, but you are still within the proper time line. Considering the load USPS had and the days off everyone was taking, then the mail will take a little longer. They send the envelop in First class mail and not anything faster.

I think you will be going to Birmingham(?) ASC which is usually not that crowded so you will also get your bio appointment in a week to two weeks, and your appointment will be also soon. You can always schedule an infopass appointment and get your passport stamped with an extension (so your employer will be satisfied). That is if you don't receive you NOA1. My guess, you will have your biometrics before your GC expires.

Finally, cashing the check is a very positive thing... they accepted your application and your ROC is well on it's way...

I realize you are frustrated with this process, but have patience and things will start rolling for you....

A lot of my co-workers here went to New Orleans for their Bio and to Atlanta for their Interview (for E-2 Visa Extensions or N-400). I am the only one running through the ROC here.

Quick question though... me and my co-worker tried to decypher the case number on the check... is it usually build up the following way?

A = Stand for a Letter, 0 = Stands for a Number

AAA0000000000AAAAAA0 ?!

In my specific case I believe that I can read

EAC??09600614VTS???8

The "?" are the missing pieces. Dies this make sense somehow???

Yes, my case number is WAC <plus 10 more numbers>

So yours is missing just the first 2.

It will be: EAC??09600614. With the complete number you can access the USCIS system.

Yes - usually Atlanta will be your interview location. The biometrics will be the closest ASC and it looks like in your case will be in New Orleans. I am not sure what the discussion is about with the check and the stamp and the numbers.....

They are very slow I think. I know what you mean about checking the mail everyday. We had our interview 3 weeks ago and they told me 2-3 weeks and I would get a decision notice on the AOS in the mail. Everyday I wait and wait, nothing. But don't worry too much, I wouldn't be suprised if it took a month to hear from them.

Guys,

I understand that they sometimes need a little longer. What makes me crazy is the evidence that speaks against this.

If I look in the December 2009 filer thread and I see people who send their paperwork on or around the same time as the USCIS received mine, nearly all of them already have a NOA date and a lot also a Bio date.

It just makes me crazy and so worried that apparently so many have their response already, but me. Because the feeling I got from reading all the threads is that the NOA is send out fair quickly after they received the paperwork and the check is cashed. Based on the December filer thread the NOA usually has the application date + 2 to 4 days as a date of printing.
