I hope the Colts win out and make it to the Super Bowl Then I'll be in way better position to finally convince Dave to buy me a no 18 jersey to wear to the party.

It sucked that the Colts didn't get the perfect season but what if they had played all their stars and one of them would have gone down with a season ending injury like Welker did for the Patriots? I can imagine the outrage that would have created in Indianapolis....

And what would have happened if Manning went down in the Buffalo game? He was taken out of game 15 to insure his health for the playoffs but starts game 16. Great logic.

They were treating it like a preseason game. Manning were out there for a couple of series to keep him sharp for the playoffs and then they sat him down to avoid injuries, makes sense to me.

Check Indy's history on how they have done in the playoffs with a first round bye. Hint: the year they won the Super Bowl, they did not have a bye. Every time they have had the extra rest, they have lost. I'm just surprised that the coach did what he did. Not many remember who won the Super Bowl, but every fan knows the 1972 Dolphins were undefeated.

I think I got a good lesson on the history of the Colts when I watched "Americas game, the Super Bowl Champions". Not saying I liked what the coach did, especially since I had Peyton in my FF league and had to bench him since I "knew" he'd probably not play the whole game  but I understand why he did it. Must be frustrating to have been in the playoffs so many times the past decade and still only have won one Super Bowl.

I feel that all football fans were cheated at a chance of history being made when he tanked the Jets game. I'm not an Indy fan and I was upset. I can only imagine how the players and fans felt in Indy. Manning was not happy about the decision, that was quite obvious. Every player shoudl want to win every game,, if not, they should find another profession.

Manning should indeed be raring to go, and want to get maximum on field game time. He's an NFL quarterback - he's paid the big bucks to be aggressive and competitive. Just as much so, it's the coaching staff's job to stay focused on the overall objective. They need to use the entire playing roster and gamebook for one purpose, and one purpose only. And that is to maximize their chances to have a winning season, and go all the way to the Superbowl. That's what they are paid to do.

All that jazz about 'perfect season' is just a distraction. Sport statistics are all fine and good, but the only statistic that truly matters is did you do everything you possibly could to go all the distance.

Look spook, we obviously disagree on this one. I'm with Dave and Helena on this one (I think it's Helena posting..). Indy played it smart, by the percentages. I would do the exact same thing in that situation.

I hope Minnesota beats the Cowboys and if my Cards can manage another upset with NO, we'll get to see those two old geezers battle it out!

I don't know if we can be friends anymore. Which is a shame, because I really like you and your wife.

But the percentages in Indy's case show that it hasn't worked in the past.

I was really disappointed with the colts decision. This is sports and this play it safe decision was a huge disappointment for me. In sports we should aim for perfection.

I think you got it wrong, going undeafeated is huge and must be a goal, you would go down in history. You would be considered the best, is that not our ultimate goal in sports? How many people would know who Bob Greise was if it were not for that awesome 1972 season.

Would have been interesting if the Vikings played the Packers for the championship, but could have ended up in a war. Could be well that the Superbowl outcome is already predetermined, it's all about making money. What really turned me off cold is when our state started collecting taxes for the Brewers and the Packers, screw all of them.

Gods a Dolphins fan.

If that is true I know the Colts made the right decision. No way they would have gotten an undefeated season if God's a Dolphins fan. :P

But the percentages in Indy's case show that it hasn't worked in the past.

I understand what you're saying. "History is difficult to ignore if for no other reason than how poorly the Colts have fared in similar situations. They're 0-3 after earning a postseason bye." http://www.indystar.com/article/20100112/SPORTS03/1120340

However, after my beloved Buckeyes, being 0-3 in their last 3 Bowl games, won the Rose Bowl this year I am a believer in breaking trends.

Nothing like playing football in a Catholic league when both opposing teams are praying to God to win. Really puts God in a bad position.
