I like how the advocate for IMBRA in the video. Stated that 30% to 50% of the immigrant women are abused. And then she stated that while some marriages to foreigners work out fine--MANY end up in abusive relationships or even death. Even at her high estimate 50% is not MANY--its Equal even in the worse case senario. And at 30% it would mean that MOST marriages work out fine--SOME end up in bad straits.

These statements remind me of the statements I have heard from foreign women about "friends" they have, who have used American or European men to get out of a dismal country. Many of them knowing they can act crazy or in some cases just abandon the American (BHoliday for example). But those statements while interesting are just as factual as saying well many end in abusive relationships--or 30% to 50% are abused.

Anyway this guy is a Democrat so wouldn't go to say that he would be more likely to drink, beat his wife, treat her like #######, etc. I mean that is just as a valid statement given statics and stories I have heard about relationships with Democrats and women, some of which have ended in Death. Maybe the IMBRA law should ask what your political party affiliation is prior to granting a visa.

I don't know why so many people are trashing the OP. If you think the news story is biased somehow, you should take it out on ABC News, not the person who posted the link to the story. It's not like the spammers that actually write letters to the editors about IMBRA and then come over here and say, "hey! look what I wrote!" or worse, pretend, that they just "found" a story that they wrote themselves.

Just watched the online video version of the news story on the ABC 7 website. The lady in the interview is spewing pure propaganda and misleading information. Its unbelievable and makes me angry.

Obviously an attempt to spread untruths in support of IMBRA law or to make people like us who have foreign spouses look like "wife beaters."

Just my opinion, but news stories like this create a terrible public stereotype towards men like me with a foreign spouse and do influence public opionion in the wrong way.

People believe everything they see on TV. Its hard to know if the wife is taking advantage of the domestic violence protections or if that guy Dickerson is really an evil guy.

I read in the ABC 7 discussion forum about this story that the lady in the interview "chases" stories like this around the country. She did the same thing on the Fox news O'reilly factor show. Obviously an agenda.

An investigation revealed the allegations were unsubstantiated, attorneys on both sides said. The charges were dismissed during a preliminary hearing.

"The allegations against Dr. Dickerson were fabricated by his wife for her own motives," said Craig Kadish, Dickerson's lawyer. "He's had to deal with having his picture in the newspaper and on TV as some kind of oddball who locked his wife in the house and starved her and beat her and raped her, which of course is completely untrue."

If you didn't want to get into a debate why did you bring it up? Propaganda goes both ways. Can you back up your previous statement that there is a "national epidemic of people claiming false allegations of abuse/rape against each other"? I read the last link you sent and according to the way I interpreted it there is no "national epidemic".

Also, that last link comes from a 1994 article from the "Journal of Men's Perspectives" which could be interpreted as biased. There could be a myriad of reasons why different levels of rape were reported to all of these entities at the same time period, it does not necessarily mean the rapes were fabricated by the victims. By the way, to other previous links are not working for me. If you are so p777sed of at this TJC why don't you complain to them? I'm not happy about the delays due to the inefficient implementation of IMBRA either but I'm not philosophically against the new law.

Can you give me some examples of "severe penalties for false accusers?" Will these severe penalties apply to everyone guilty of making false accusations in any crime? Or will they just apply to false accusers of rape?
