Adolf Hitler's hatred of Jews may stem from his errant belief that his mother was poisoned to death by a Jewish doctor, the author of a new book about the Nazi dictator claims.

In "November 9: How World War One Led To The Holocaust," author Joachim Riecker writes that the death of his mother, Klara, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, left an indelible mark on the then-18-year-old Adolf.

Klara's doctor, Eduard Bloch, had administered iodoform, which was the standard treatment for breast cancer at the time. She would die from the treatment in 1907, when she was just 47 years old.

"Hitler never forgave the Jewish doctor," Riecker told the British newspaper The Telegraph. "In conversations with aides such as Josef Goebbels he referred to the Jews as being like TB and himself as a 'healer' who had to stamp it, and consequently them, out."

Interesting. The History Channel recently aired a program on Hitler and it was really good. I did not know that he was very much interested in the occult. That at least helped explain his irrationality when it came to his attempt to exterminate the Jews. The most mind boggling thing though for me is knowing that Germany was at the forefront of Modern Thought and Science at the time that Hitler rose to power. At a time when they were making great strides in enlightenment, here comes this crazy dumbfvck to turn Germany on its head without much internal resistance.

It always seemed a little far fetched to believe the simple narrative that Hitler hated the Jews and so, in just a few short years he convinced the whole country to do so as well.

Try to imagine, how clever the movie or propagandas would have to be to get you to go along with such things.... against your neighbor, your school mate or co-worker?

I'm bettin a lot more people than Hitler disliked the Jews.

Couple weeks ago I go a fundraising mailing from "World Jewish Congress Foundation", not sure who they are but it included a world map actually a poster

of anti-semetic crimes or incidents around the world, Europe was quite full on the map and the USA really only had a few.

Apparently Europe still has hostility in this area.

Antisemitism wasn't new to Germany (or the world) in the early 20th century. Hitler merely stirred up Germany's anger at the Treaty of Versailles (and the countries who wrote it) by directing their animosity at an old, but faithfully hated, target: the Jews.

Blaming the Jews for what occurred during WWI was a way for Germany to escape looking inwards and taking responsibility for its actions. Why take responsibility when you can blame someone else for your problems?

Something else to remember is at the study of eugenics was very popular shortly before and during Hitler's rise to power. Eugenics extended far beyond Germany into other areas of Europe and North America. Using eugenics as a stepping stone, Hitler made Germans believe that Jews were on a "lower rung" of humanity and had failed to "evolve" like non-Jewish Germans. In order to "save the German people", Hitler said it was imperative that Jews get excluded from certain professions, schools and activities, eventually resulting in the creation and use of concentration camps.

Was Hitler insane? Maybe, but he was also a genius when it came to manipulating people. Even if he wasn't crazy, the fact he could do that so easily is more than scary enough.

Now going a bit tangential, but...also common in more than a few Muslim countries, particularly Pakistan (whose entire policy since 1958 has been based on perpetual hate of its eastern neighbour). It is still taught in Pakistani schools that India was responsible for 1971 crisis--when reality was that India was actually "johnny-come-lately", and the crisis was caused by Pakistani army/government's own mishandling.

It was France declared the Anschluss on Austria, insisted upon the annexation of the Sudetenland in 1938, signed the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop pact with the USSR, and then launched a surprise blitzkrieg on Poland on Sept 1 1939 to initiate hostilities. Just my bad for somehow thinking that was the Third Reich. Poor Adolf was just soooo misunderstood. Kind of like you , I guess.
