oh i see. in india, it is a lot like america. his mom took his dad's last name, but his sister kept her maiden name. then it is a whole different ball game from there. his sister is married to a sikh, so their daughter's last name is kaur, which is neither of their last names. girls who are sikh's all have the same last name of kaur. then the men who are sikh's have a different last name

are you confused? because i certainly am :P

AAm's Thai name (AAm is just her nickname...90% of Thai people use nicknames) is a real doozy...but her son's/daughter's names are dooziesX2!

I had a friend from Thailand when I was 10 and lived in NC. His name was Burt Thongphomphim they couldn't put his full name in the year book.

 ....yeppers...that is about right. However, I bet that 'Burt' wasn't his real first name, just his English nickname. In Thailand, the first name is usually equally as long as the last name. I can't even pronounce my step son/daughters's names :help: ...and it took me about 6 months of practice before I could remember/say AAm's real Thai name

Yes, Burt was def not his real name. I always laugh when I think about the contrast of his first name to surname.

yeah, and the husband was wondering why i didn't get it. so i just went with it ;)

I'm still confused.

this is what i found from wikipedia:

Kaur (Punjabi: ਕੌਰ; Hindi: कौर) in Sikhism (meaning: "princess") is a mandatory last name for female Sikhs, in the same way as Singh is for male Sikhs.[1][2]

this explains why a lot of people's last name there is singh. oooooooooooooooh.

Yep...I have some Sikh friends who live in the USA and India and they always have Singh in their name.

Keep in touch, Bishop.

I am going to run AAm up to the Thai Embassy in DC to renew her passport. If I don't go today, then there is a good chance that I won't have time to make it in before the end of the month. She needs it renewed because she's going back to Thailand at the end of February...so we don't want to wait too long.

Its always fun to go to DC with AAm

Yeah.. there's been some controversy here in Canada about the "Singh" last name. Someone was held up because Singh isn't considered a "real" last name.

Hmmmm...now that I think about it...my Sikh friends all have Singh in the name, but it is usually not their 'last name'. Their last name is always their family name. For example, all my friends name follow this pattern: John Singh Doe.

So I could see what someone might be held up upon the though that Singh isn't really their last/family name.

Nearly lunchtime Commiez

Have a great weekend Bishop.

oh K

it took me a heck of a long time and good friend to explain to me what that was about because his name was also Singh and he was Sikh. It is completely different religion than Hindu.

I'm like "Singh is a very popular name" lol

but like you said the women also use Kaur

one guy came into my work a couple weeks ago and explained to me the reason why and when they decided to adopt that way

We have a winner people!!!!

GOD BLESS YOU!!!!! :innocent:

BTW, I'm still concerned about your kidneys especially now that the good one has stones. :crying::crying::crying:

IR5, I'm to the point where I don't even want to think about it. All this is complete chit! Chit, I tell you. Going on 9 years of this. Im sick and very tired of freakin' KIDNEYS!

My dear Nagi, could it be that you are losing faith? He tests us and our faith every day, whether we know it or not. If it His will then your kidneys will heal and if they don't then He has other plans, it is not our place to understand what is beyond our level of comprehension. Kidney problems suck but what are they compared to Pharaoh? :innocent: Sometimes the miraculous isn't what we imagine it would be.

Very interesting, BrotherCinco, and indeed quite apropos.

Nagilita, I'm sure you've thought of this before, but immediately as soon as Paul had his 'Road to Damascus' experience, he related that the Lord placed a 'thorn in his side' so that he might not become boastful. Indeed, this thorn in his side (which he never elaborated upon or further identified) became his own personal cross to bear in order that he might not become to 'humanly proud' of the fact that God had chosen him for such a grand revelation. As BroCinco has correctly pointed out, we all (though usually in a much less grand/dramatic way than Paul) have our own 'thorn in our side', which we must bear in order to better understand that great mystery of suffering and redemption which Christ paid on our behalf. In this light, I fully agree with BroCinco, and believe that your 'thorn' could be your kidney (for BroCinco, perhaps it is is shoulder, for me - knee, etc) but for sure you should bless yourself with the opportunity to offer such suffering (which will be realized as so trivial and minimal in the next eternal life, even though now it is a great endurance for you) as a blessing and a wonderful invitation from Christ to bear witness and emerse yourself in the prayerful life.

Ok ok ok...enuff of that...The Bishop steps out from behind the pulpit <hahahaha> :innocent::blush:

Peace and Blessings to the thread...

Mark

wow

indeed you should be coronated Bishop
