Fake Tree because the needles will not shed and make a mess, the house will not smell, fire retardant (not that it'll be near fire, maybe a short in the lighting), and can be reused, easy to set up, lightweight, etc... After Thanksgiving because I get to enjoy the Holidays more richly. Multicolored blinking because I like it.

I refuse (to Dave's frustration) to put up my Christmas tree until the evening before Christmas Eve. This is a big deal and has to be accompanied with Glögg (Egg Nog for Dave), candy and gingerbread biscuits.

It has to be a real tree. Back in Sweden I would go out and cut it myself but obviously that would not go down well in our Townhome community. Instead I force Dave to go with me to look for a tree among the very limited selection available so close to Christmas. He is now talking about buying one early December and hide it from me in the basement.

Lights have to be white and no flashing is allowed in (or around) the house.

Poll is a bit flawed...I selected that I put up my tree after the 2nd week of Christmas, but the more specific option of Christmas Eve isn't available. I put up my tree on Christmas Eve, and leave it up at least until Epiphany (January 6). For us, Christmas doesn't actually begin till Christmas Eve. The four weeks prior are Advent, which is to Christmas what Lent is to Easter. When everyone else is burned out with Christmas, we're just getting started :)

We have an artificial (natural looking) tree to avoid the mess, expense and potential fire hazard of a real one. The lights are white, non-blinking.

I would add 1 or 2 more time categories if I was doing it again - I did not know about this Xmas Eve tradition some people have. Also, in some countries Xmas is later than Dec 25th. Nonetheless, interesting spread of responses so far. Surprised also at the heavy predominance of artificial trees so far. I have an artificial tree as well.

I do not put up a Christmas tree.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I refuse to skip Thanksgiving. I put up the tree the weekend after.

When I grow up I want a real tree. In the meantime, I put up a fake one. The faker the better at this point in my daughter's life. She wanted a pink tree, so we are having a pink tree. It's the tackiest thing I've ever seen, but she loved it in the store. She will love it for a few years to come, and when she gets older she will laugh with her friends that she had a pink tree when she was a kid. (OMG, What was my mom thinking?)

The pink tree is pre-lit, but I'd use white steady lights anyway.

Fake since we can't afford to do real each year for the time being. It's a 4-footer that I put up on a plastic 20 gallon tub.

I put white and blue LED lights and a string of multi-color. The LED's just don't put out enough light so I put the old style multi's on.

The tree is already up, but not decorated - that will happen on Saturday with hubby.

Fake tree, a couple of days before Christmas (there's a song called the 12 days of Christmas for a reason!) and steady white lights.

Always use a fake tree, as I can't abide tree-murder. What a total waste: cutting down millions of poor little trees, just so you can slap some lights on it for a month and then discard it in the street.

Buy one with roots, bring it inside for a week, decorate it, then plant it outside.

They scream when you cut them.

And the first day of Christmas is December 25 :)

Trees scream? I'll need a recording as evidence of that...

We have an artificial (green) tree because it's easier to take out of the box and put up every year. We've had the same tree for the past 3 years.

Blinking lights drive me crazy, but our tree has pretty colored lights that I believe give our home more of a warm environment.

We also bought some Christmas decorations and I put up everything the day before Thanksgiving since hubby had already taken everything out of storage. Our house looks festive now and I like that, especially since we live in Florida and nothing outside looks like Christmas.
