Nixon re-stated his support for universal healthcare in a 1992 book, writing:

"We need to work out a system that includes a greater emphasis on preventive care, sufficient public funding for health insurance for those who cannot afford it in the private sector, competition among healthcare providers and health insurance providers to keep down the costs of both, and decoupling the cost of healthcare from the cost of adding workers to the payroll.''

It's also their actions that lead to the Iraq war.

Feeble minded people think alike.

Republicans are united in trying to stop this train wreck from happening. I hope they are ultimately successful.

You are right, really. Being in Iraq is just stupid. If we get out of their way, they will kill each other at a much faster rate and have to sell oil to pay for it, the oil price will fall and we will work overtime to make bullets to sell them, except our ammunition factories are already working overimte to handle the increased sales of the world's greatest Gun and ammunition salesman...Obama, so we will have to build more ammunition factories to handle the demand and that will create 300 million new jobs and boost the economy 987% and home sales will skyrocket and all will be wonderful and we will all have healthcare paid for by bullets sold to Iraq, bought with oil money that gluts the market and drops the oil price, just like when Iraq and Iran went to war in the 80's. Awesome.

So, immediately, just as he said, and knowing our ammunition based economy depended on it, Obama and the Democrat controlled congress got us out of Iraq...thank God, it was the first thing Obama did and Congress de-funded it, just like they tried so many times when Bush was President but Bush blocked them...the moron! All the troops are home now, I know because all the protests stopped the day after Obama was inaugurated. Great accomplishment Dems!

we need another Watergate.

That's been the Right Wing's wet dream since Nixon went down in flames.

But see, I don;t care if it is a Republican Watergate or Dem Watergate. Anything that causes government gridlock is cool by me. Iam not right wing so I wouldn't know, I just want the gridlock. The Republicrats are doing things best when they do nothing

That's been the Right Wing's wet dream since Nixon went down in flames.

Why?

We already have another Vietnam.

Nothing would make Obama's opponents happier than to see his administration mired in controversy. They spent several years and millions of dollars trying to bring down the last Democrat in the White House. When you can't debate the merits of their policies and agenda, then you fight to delegitimize them politically. That's why this health care reform is so pivotal to rest of Obama's agenda.

You know, I was watching this on the news this morning and all I could think was how shocking it is that the US is only now doing something about healthcare reform when the rest of the developed world did it decades ago. In the US it's all about the haves and the have-nots. Those who "have" have the strongest voice and it's me me me me me. Those who "have not" aren't heard because they don't have a voice (paid lobbyists, healthcare industry) and nobody cares about them. The ironic thing is that the word "healthcare" is an oxymoron here.

what's shocking to me is that anyone thinks Americans will accept the ####### healthcare the rest of the industrialized world has put up with. And I fear for the Canadians that flood across the border every day to use the medical services in Vermont...what are they going to do now?

"####### Healthcare" How many Americans are already flooding across the border to Canada to get basic treatment? How many more Americans will go bankrupt because of this supposed "Superior" Health Care in the USA? Superior in the sense if you are rich. Majority of Americans are one serious/major illness away from going broke if their insurance denies them coverage. Got a pre-existing condition? FU. The Republicans have offered nothing, they accept status quo, offering no solutions to the problem and are very much standing side by side with the health insurance industry.

Exactly. You've embraced the notion that government is not "the people", but some scary monster to feared and loathed.

The US is forming its own healthcare policies.... they're not adopting someone else's.

And I fear for the Canadians that flood across the border every day to use the medical services in Vermont...what are they going to do now?

What's funny is that you think you've just posted a brilliant rebuttal when, in fact, those who know otherwise are amused - and possibly even intrigued - by the ignorance.

Yep. Somewhere along the way, the Republican Party lost the idea of looking out for the least of their brethren. At some point, they decided that government is no longer "the people" but some scary monster to be feared and loathed.

It's just important to remember that this is not about just giving the "have-nots" access to healthcare... it's all of us really... any of us could lose coverage or go bankrupt trying to treat an illness... That's why the status quo is so scary imho.

While i'm not sure the plans they are suggesting will be a cure-all, and this is truly going to take years to get it right... i'm still glad that something is being done, instead of nothing...

I agree it is a shame. It's all about the party stance, not what's best for the people. It's a Democrat idea, so it's no good. The GOP uses the same logic as VW and a few others here of both parties. It's a Repbub idea, so it's no good. Meantime it does nothing to resolve the issue. They can't even vote to discuss it, pathetic. They won't compromise at all to have some say in it? Lame. It's not about whose idea it is or what party you belong to, it's about the American people.

I think it is VERY good it is a Democrat idea. WHY are Democrats so ashamed to lay claim to it? It is all yours, take it. Brag about it! Ride it to re-election for years to come! Don't worry, be happy. You will get ALL the "credit".

Bu tin reality the Democrats are thinking..."oh ####### we are about to turn our healthcare over to the same government that runs USCIS" I can;t wait for the healthcare call center to be set up. :help:

You missed my point.

If you are a democrat and want to stay in office, have to do what the democratic party tells you to do, same with a republican, it's the heads of those parties that are running the country, even picking out the guys or gals that can run for office giving us really not much of a choice.

Who can correct this? Congress only can, fat chance of that ever happening.
