We could run out of web addresses in the next two years, unless businesses and government organisations [sp] heed the advice of the European Commission

Geek Stuff

I've been hearing the alarm bells about IPv6 for a decade now.

The fact is, the vast majority of businesses only need a handful of static addresses, and use NAT to map their internal LANs through their firewalls.

If every business computer in the world had its own static public address we would have run out long ago. The reason IPv4 has stuck around as long as it has is because we hide internal networks. Are we in fact at the tipping point where we can't get away with that any longer? Perhaps. Maybe this time the experts are right and we need to shift to IPv6. But I've read such reports years ago too.

It's all hype to change from IPv4 to IPv6. However, we do know there's a limit.

They gotten rid of the class interdomain routing. Thank god. But, it's still IPv4. Anyway, with IPv4 packet segment, there's additional header options that don't even need to be present. Such a waste (reduce throughput). IPv6 got rid of that.

Currently routers switching fabric has problems with p2p network. The IPv6 routers hopefully will change their algorithms.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
