I am currently in India with my fiance compiling evidence for the K-1 Visa application. I have been in India for about 3 weeks and the entire time I have been staying with my cousin at her house. I asked my cousin if she could provide me an Affidavit stating that I stayed at her house for 3 weeks in India.

Unfortunately my cousin said she could not provide an affidavit.

So now I am wondering just how important proving where you have stayed is in the K-1 Petition? I could check into a cheap hotel for a few days - but on a 3 week trip it might look odd to have a hotel receipt for only 4 days.

Do I need to provide Proof of Lodging for my trip to India? I have my boarding passes, Visa entry stamps, and several restaurant bills for places I have eaten at in New Delhi.

I am worried hwever that the most important evidence they may require is Proof of Lodging.

Please let me know and thanks

Honestly I do not have many restaurant receipts. I have a few receipts here and there for food - but primarily I have been staying at my cousin's house and eating food at my cousin's or at my fiance's house.

I do have one receipt for the purchase of a $550 laptop from a local mall here in New Delhi. I have not seen anyone else provide such a proof of purchase, but I am just not sure how big of a deal Proof of Lodging may be.

It is not important at all. I never provided any hotel or other receipts. Your travel documents (boarding passes, passport stamps, etc.) and photos of you two together will be enough. If you need to, use the old trick of a photo together holding a newspaper with the visible headline which can be identified to the date. Your cousin, in my opinion is an @ss, why would they not say you stayed there? At any rate, it will not matter, there is too much other evidence you can collect.

Listen carefully...

You do not need ANY receipts. NONE, NADA, ZIP -0-. Throw ALL of them away if you want. You have passport stamps, boarding passes and lots of photos. If you wish to add ANY receipts to this, even a trolley ticket, it is your option but it is NOT necessary. You need to establish you were there and you were together. THAT is all. You do not need a detailed itinerary. There is NO requirement you stay in a hotel, eat at a restaraunt, go to Disney World or anything else. There is a requirement you MEET IN PERSON, that is ALL. This meeting can be for 10 seconds, take a photo, thank you goodbye.

You could SWIM to India, meet your fiancee on the beach, have a phot taken with some sort of date evidence, and guess what...you qualify!

Have a good time, your visit will generate its own evidence, keep your travel documents and take photos.

Gary is 100% right. We never used these things either, just the photo's, boarding passes and things of this nature...no receipts of where we stayed or where we ate, etc.

Don't worry, be happy, airline tickets and pictures are the most important.

No, they are not. Airline tickets are not evidence at all and pictures are secondary evidence. Airline boarding passes and passport stamps are the primary evidence of meeting in person but having some photos is a great idea. Other primary evidence would include receipts in-country.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
