I hope this isn't too off topic but has anyone seen that movie The Proposal? My hubby and I just watched it tonight and found it hit home for us!! It's really a cute movie but it was funny to watch how Hollywood interprets people's experience with USCIS. I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen it and your thoughts on it?

To those who have seen it...I actually kind of wish USCIS came to 'check up' on us as the IO did in the movie, but I laughed at that b/c they would never have time for that!

I know  Daniel and I just laughed at how Hollywood is totally out of touch with reality. Wish people would get personalised service like the movie. Not to forget the fraud marriage would have caused a lot more trouble than just a "Lets do this!"

Yeah and honestly if they had gone back again after Sandra Bullock admitted to visa fraud and said "we're doing it for real this time!" I don't think they would have nice things to say

I'm just hoping no IOs saw the movie since my hubby is from Canada! lol

Lol! I loved this movie, I need to netflix it so my husband can see it too...

But agreed so unrealistic!

Wouldn't it have been nice if we could just walk our paperwork into a USCIS Office and hand it over, interview right away. And an in country fiancee visa? Now that would have been convenient - that would have given us time to plan to plan a big wedding... Rather than having 2 weddings.

Also the visits to Alaska?!? Well putting it out there USCIS are welcome to visit us anytime they want. I wish they could! Then they could see we do live together and all is legit... But alas that would never happen

Nov 6, 2012 N-400 mailed

Yeah I know, it would be so nice if they actually DID come visit!! I think the only accurate part they got was that USCIS actually does an interview

It's a cute movie though totally unrealistic.

I did like the Chippendale's stripper scene. That was a riot.

haha yeah & Betty White's character was so funny too

I haven't seen the movie, but I've certainly heard (mostly negative) things about it. Does it continue to propagate the myth of "marry an American and automatically become one yourself" or did Hollywood at least manage to get that right?

I got a little annoyed at the inaccuracies at first but then I thought to myself, it is just a movie..

and no they didn't try and say that you just have to marry an American to become a citizen.. they went to apply for a visa etc...

what I thought was funny is that they had a Canadian actor playing the American and a American actor playing the Canadian ..lol

They did at least incorporate the visa, but even that was unrealistic! The two just walked into the office, cut the line, and handed them a fiance visa..and then got an interview! I wish it was like that :P

It was funny that they switched the Canadian & American, I was thinking that as well.
