I'm not looking (or hoping) that the plan fails. I just don't believe it'll succeed, but I've been proven wrong before. I'll simply take a wait-and-see approach for now.

I hope that some reasonable plan succeeds. With our without a public option, I don't think that should be the deal breaker.

The thing I'm curious to see is whether the House and Senate are able to reconcile on a single bill. So far we have different legislation in both houses which has been carefully crafted to win alliances within each house. How to get from there to a single bill still seems like a challenge. I think the single biggest thing going for a successful bill this time is the collective memory Congress has of last time, when the Clintons failed to get it done. That might just be enough to pull together a compromise.

It shows the hubris of the woman that the unveiling she presided over is the "historic moment", whereas none of the other plans' unveilings were proclaimed as such.

I hope her plan receives the vote it deserves, for 1190 pages of half-measures, cop-outs and compromises. If it fails, there is a better chance that the next time such an opportunity comes around, someone will have the backbone to do it right, with the elimination of insurances companies from basic healthcare, the introduction of effective tort reform to sideline the ambulance-chasers and a well-thought-out approach to using the massive buying power of a single-payer system to leverage lower drug costs.

Until that happens, any measure proposed by the idiots in Congress is like a band-aid over an arterial bleed. Worthless.

Well, that was the case from 2001 - 2006 as well and the health care system didn't get fixed then either. Look, this is an issue that's been out there for decades. The health care system has grown into a multi-trillion dollar industry. Much like the military industrial complex that we can't seem to be able to control, there's now also a medical industrial complex. Those having financial stakes in that industry will do all they can to protect their take and keep. It's an uphill battle no doubt. Which is why this has gone unresolved and become an almost uncontrollable cancer like phenomenon over the last several decades.
