Hi guys;

I've been serching the web for this but haven't come accross any answers to these questions.

1) Can a person who is here on a CR-1 apply for financial aid for college?

2) Will it impede them when they apply for Removing Conditions?

Anyone?

I don't know how much this will help but I know of a K3 holder out of Egypt living in AZ who got student financial aid to go to college and it didn't affect them when they went to Adjust Status.

Once they get here they are a legal permanent resident, and they can definitely get financial aid like a citizen does.

Student financial aid is not a means tested public benefit - immigrants are allowed to file for it without any issues.

Wow, this responce is exactly what I needed to read. I was wondering if you have a govermental link that states the same thing? It's not that I don't believe you. In fact, your responce sounds logical. It's just thaqt I like to dot all my I's and cross all my T's before I jump in the deep end (LOL).

Thanks Again.

I looked into this as i want to further my education in the future.

It depends from school to school. Most of the schools in FL had the requirement that I had to be a PR in the US for one year before they would provide student financial aid or before I could qualify for tuition reduction.

That would be financial aid directly from the school. You qualify for the FAFSA.

Yup - a GC holder can apply for financial aid.

see http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/faq003.htm

You fall into the category of 'eligible non-citizen'

Good Luck !! School is fun ! (I miss it ! )

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
