I've got a few questions regarding the Declaration of Meeting in Person page portion of the I-129F application (Question #18).

* Is this a single document that needs to be written by ONLY the US Citizen or by both the US Citizen and the Fiance.

If by both, should they be the exact same or is it ok for them to be different?

If by both, do both documents get sent in at the time of the I-129F? Or does the fiance take her declaration with her to the interview?

* Is this a document that needs to be notarized by a notary before being sent in?

* What exactly should the structure of this document be?

- How, when and where you met

- How much time you spent with each other "dating" ?????

- How you decided to actually get married to each other

- How you decided to get married in the USA and choose the K1 Fiance Visa process ????

Thanks !

Keep in mind - the I-129f is the US citizen's petition to the US government, so it is your story (not done by both the petitioner and the beneficiary). It does not need to be notarized.

The question is asking you how you met in person - this can be a simple and concise paragraph - it does not need to be your entire courtship/love-story (although some folks insist on writing a book when asked this question) - some folks have managed to use only the space provided on the form itself (that's a very short story) while most will use a supplement sheet to give a few more details.

For us: "Met XXX while XXX, went to Germany on xxx for xxx weeks, when again on xxx for xxx weeks - end of story"

Question #18 only needs to be a sentence or two. Since both of your stories will match, only you need to type the facts. There is no need for an elaborate novel; only state how and when you met in person.

If by both, should they be the exact same or is it ok for them to be different?

If by both, do both documents get sent in at the time of the I-129F? Or does the fiance take her declaration with her to the interview?

* Is this a document that needs to be notarized by a notary before being sent in?

The I-129F does not need to be notarized.

* What exactly should the structure of this document be?

Here's what I wrote. You can change the facts to match your meeting:

Alla and I met online and began extensive correspondence using emails, phone calls, Skype video calls and text messaging. On Feb 14 we both travelled to and met in Kiev, Ukraine until Feb 24.

- How, when and where you met Period. Short and simple. They only want to know that you two met in person somewhere within two years prior to filing the petition. If you two met in an airport for one second and have the proof of that, then you are good to do.

- How much time you spent with each other "dating" ????? Nope, only did you meet in person.

- How you decided to actually get married to each other Nope, did you meet in person.

- How you decided to get married in the USA and choose the K1 Fiance Visa process ???? Nope, did you meet in person.

Now all this other lovey-dovey stuff does come into play at the interview. There you both have to provide evidence of an ongoing relationship and that your relationship is real and you truly are intending to get married and stay together rather than commit visa fraud. Depending on the consulate, this proof can either be a no-brainer or very important and difficult.

Also depending on the consulate, some petitioners will front-load their petition with this type of information. Read up on the experiences of your consulate in their country prior to filing to see if this is important or not.

Mine was sweet, short, and to the point. I made it fit in the space given. I just stated how we met and the follow up visits. Don't have to write a book.

Sorry to ask, but where can I go on the VJ website to research some more on Embassy practices and experiences in New Delhi, India.

(I am currently in New Delhi India now visiting my fiance - but do not have reliable or steady access to the internet).

Thanks in advance for any help to such a straightforward follow up question !

There is, really, no such thing. It is an answer to question 18 describing how you met in person. If you cannot fit it in the space provided (I almost did) then attach a sheet and make sure the sheet is clearly marked as to what it is an answer to. It does not need to be notarized or even signed, it is a continuation sheet, that is all.

Here is my answer in total

"On September 19, 2007 I was returning from a trip to Ukraine and had a layover in Prague, CZ. I met Alla while waiting in line to buy bus tickets to the city"

That's it, that's all. It is a description of how you met in person. Incidentally, it does NOT have to describe each time, the first time, the last time or the 3rd, 5th or 10th time. You only need to state how you have met in person, at least ONE time in the last two years and attach evidence to support that answer. I attached boarding passes, passport stamps and ONE photo of us together

While one of the few stipulations for approval of an I29F petition is having met in person during the last two years, there has been occasional anecdotal evidence in these forums of RFE's for failing to disclose when the parties first met. And this occurred even before IMBRA became law.

So it's a good idea to mention how you met and when, in addition to documenting that you've seen each other in the last 24 months before filing.

My Fiance wrote a full page letter. He started with the date we began talking, how we met through a video game (his friend that I met IRL introduced us), how it escalted to outside a game, how I went on vacation to meet him and his family and the date, and how he proposed before I left to go home to Canada and then he ended with how we're ready for the next phase of our relationship and life together then he signed it.

It wasn't too detailed but we tried to give a timeline of all events.

Good Luck!
