Hi Friends,

I recently got my K 1 Visa and am booking my air ticket from India to N.Y. Does the route of travel make any difference at P.O.E questioning?

For example, i want to take Qatar Airways, my route will be Amritsar-->Doha-->N.Y.

But i am being suggested not to take middle east route because i will have more problems at P.O.E.

British Airways is my second choice, with the route- New Delhi-->London-->N.Y.

Is the second route more safe? Please advise, i 've to book my air ticket.(I would prefer Qatar Airways, if no difference).:)

As long as you're just transiting through the airport in Doha, and not clearing customs there, then you aren't actually entering Qatar. Transit points don't generally make any difference to the CBP. They are only concerned about countries you actually entered on your trip.

Please note that I'm talking about actually going through customs and getting your passport stamped on entry and exit. I'm not talking about simply going through a security checkpoint at the airport. Many international airports have additional security checkpoints for transit passengers (called "transfer" passengers at some airports).

None. Buy the cheapest ticket (or fastest or whatever you prefer)

You may prefer BA into JFK - it comes into Terminal 7 which is a tiny 7 or 8 gate terminal - so many times your flight might be the only one to be going through Immigration/Customs - it was very fast! If someone is going to be waiting for you outside customs that might be a consideration. :D

Choose whatever is easier for you, i.e. affordable, good timing etc. As long as you have a valid Visa P.O.E. would not ask you why you traveled through a particular country. P.O.E. may ask you lot of other immigration related questions but as long as your originating country was India and final destination US, no problems.

It doesnt really matter which route, because the middle east route is a leg of your journey (transit) to POE in NY

Heather's point is a good one. Terminal 4 at JFK is a ZOO in the late afternoon when many of the European and middle east flights arrive. 2-3 hours just to get through the line at customs is not unusual
