Sure, why not.

I like green tech.

Big reason why not; No one buys just one light bulb. Ya gotta buy several, unless you live in a jail cell, and just have one lamp. Mucho Money, that's why. Better to spend it on something fun and enjoy yourself!

How many light bulbs do you need?

Well, 5 rooms in the house. It would be nice to have a light in each room.

I'd buy a couple to see if I like them first, then buy 10 or 20 more. Maybe.

The price is a bit steep...I'd need about 20 in my house, not including the 6 track-lights we have in our living room ceiling (which are LEDs). I could see about a third of that price. The idea is great, but for it to be something the average person will buy, the price needs to come down significantly.

A $40 price tag for a single light bulb may seem ridiculous to most consumers. But the Dutch company Lemnis Lighting hopes people will listen to all the arguments for their high-tech LED bulb, and consider it a bargain. [W]hat if it used 90% less electricity than a standard incandescent bulb, cut greenhouse gas emissions and saved you about $280 over its 25-year life span? [Los Angeles Times].

This is a soft white bulb with a standard base, practically all the light fixtures in my home use a crystal clear bulb with a weirdass base. I would have to wait until they come out with a crystal clear bulb with a weirdass bass.

CFLs' use a high frequency inverter circuit with cheapass transistors and components, the point of the base terminal uses a fused wire to power that circuit, if any component fails, they are really jammed in there, or you get a current surge, that fused link will blow having the same lighting effect as leaving your bulb in the package. No juice gets to it. They do last a lot longer if you leave them in the package. That's a free hint.

I'm glad I checked your answer first. I'll definitely wait at least 3-4 years. I just bought a 10 pack of energy efficient compact florescent 60w replacement bulbs from Costco for $1.99 so I should be set for a while. I replaced all of my bulbs last year and haven't replaced any since except for one in my garage I accidentally broke.

My electricity usage last year was 40% lower every month than the year before, so yes! I'm on level pay and although they have lowered my payment by $30 each month I am still looking at a $125 credit.

That's pretty good. We have an old refrigerator that I wish I could replace with a more energy efficient one. Refrigerators are one of the biggest energy hogs when it comes to appliances.

If those Dutch can sell a light bulb for 40 bucks, explains why the UN rates those Scandinavian countries as the best place to live. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if they are buying that LED from China for a couple of cents. Ha, entire bulb is made in China.

I didn't see that much of a change, but i don't think for me lighting makes up the most significant portion of my energy costs.
