got two emails today!! a welcome notice for being a permanent residence and an approval for my EAD!! :dance::dance:

and now its time for job hunting :whistle: I'll start sending resume tomorrow :thumbs:

You got your welcome notice and your EAD approval emails on the same day?

Welcome notice usually only precedes GC by a few days. You may very well get your GC before your EAD!

I've read of that happening to a few other people on here. Sure makes the EAD feel pretty useless.

I only had my EAD about 2 weeks before my GC showed up. That's barely enough time to really start job hunting, let alone get hired and use it. So I've now got a totally useless USCIS card here.

Sure is pretty and shiny though. Looks cool when you hold the two cards together B)

I totally agree heatdeath :yes::lol:

and i also find it weird to get texts and email at 8pm and 10pm from USCIS too :lol: heres what i got

I think you can give it a try!! Having a GC is not pre-requisite to get a license, just you need to know to drive ;) .. Jokes apart, you should be able to take all your docs, even some utility bills proving the residence etc - they might need a photo proof and address proof. Also, you can call them and ask them, check up your local dmv number online... sometimes they are really helpful ...

It depends on the state, some will make you do a written or road test. Nebraska waived the road test for me because of the valid Canadian licence, but still had a 25 question computerized test. Some states also make their licences valid with immigration docs (expire date of EAD orGC)but mine is good for 5 years. I think all states have adapted the proof of residency such as utility bills and most request 2.

Is your I 94 still in status? If not then they may not accept it... They may or may not accept an NOA1 from AOS showing your status as pending AOS.

It's worth a shot while your licence is still valid & you have an approved EAD to go with!

We were told approval for a GC on a 797 was required or a GC. K1 status was disallowed for even a learner's permit Wyoming.

Welcome! :thumbs: Your timeline looks very normal, yes. Every case is different and although you can look at other October filers' timlines as a guidance, don't use it to predict when you'll get documents since it can vary greatly! Some of us are still waiting for EAD approvals, some have already gotten their Green Card...and we are all October filers!!

Don't forget to fill in your timeline!

Hi korthak, welcome to VJ and our October group.

You can take a look at the various timelines in the October Filers Spreadsheet (link below).

If you'd like to be added to the spreadsheet, just need to know a few additional details:
