Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) was outraged to learn that Washington's Metro system did not run as smoothly as right-wing activists would have liked during Saturday's protests. Conservatives wanted to rail against government providing public services, but were disappointed when the taxpayer-subsidized subway system failed to meet their public transit expectations. Brady was especially incensed that some of his own constituents had to spend their own money on privately-funded taxi cabs.

As Greg Sargent reports, Brady has no one to blame but himself.

...Brady voted against Federal funding for the very same Metro he's blaming for offering the tea partiers substandard service. [...]

[E]arlier this year, Brady voted against the stimulus package. It provided millions upon millions of dollars for all manner of improvements to ... the D.C. Metro.

Every House GOPer, of course, voted against the stimulus. Still, it's a real head-spinner to bash a government-run system for failing to adequately serve an enormous anti-government protest after opposing government funding for it.

It's not too late, I suppose. The D.C. metro system has no dedicated source of revenue, which undermines the quality of the service. Now that Brady has come to realize that transportation projects like these need added government investment, I'm sure that if he were to propose a new spending bill to improve this and other public transportation projects, Democrats would graciously co-sponsor his proposal.

What do you say, Rep. Brady?

We should all support government funding of services like ACORN. Hey, catch the one where the ACORN employee tells the pimp not to educate the illegal under age prostitutes so the won't get independent and they won't tell their classmates the are llegal immigrant underage sex slaves?

Give a me a cab any day.

Small minds need to stay focused. At one time they focused on Communist and Socialist. But those words were too big for most members of the small mind alliance. Then they tried focusing on fewer letters, like NAACP, but that was too difficult for them to remember how to spell. But ACORN can be remembered phonetically, and they can even carry one in their pocket if they forget who they fear and hate...nd thus is easier for the small minds to spew at any given moment, in any situation, no matter it's relationship to the topic at hand.

Of course trust you to find the NAACP acceptable rather than racist. How about you run the name in any other developed country and see their reaction to it?

Actually run it through Aus considering racism is illegal there. They'll teach you all about what they think of the first amendment and reverse racism in prison there.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Well, another anti-federalist took this thread into a different tangent, conveniently overlooking the irony of the OP. You'll never get one of these anti-federalists to admit that the Federal Government can and does work.

Actually, I agree with you. I am 110% a federalist.

The infrastructure in this country is a disgrace. The DC Metro has trains circulating from the 70's.

And yet, D.C. is in better shape on public transportation than most American Metro areas. At least they have a metro system.

There is a major need for lots more public fast transportation in cities and to and from cities, and yes that means USA needs to create a nationalized railway system to and from major cities(high speed nonstop trains) and they also need lots more bus, or subway or tram services in cities. Just a fact whether you are liberal or conservative, it is needed.

Whether he voted for it or not...maybe he figures that if the government is running it already that it should function in a competent manner. And if the lack of public funds preclude this...maybe the users should pony up with higher fares to cover the real costs of running the system. And if the higher fees can't make it competitive with other transportation...............

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

All forms are of transportation are subsidized to some extent, directly or indirectly.

Please don't tell me that bud. It's freagin embarrassing to take people on the metro from out of town. The trains in Melbourne have been update a good four times since the trains in DC were first installed. With a new Siemens model coming from Italy soon.

You know what's interesting, the trains in Melbourne are privatized. Connex used to run them but the contract has now been awarded to a joint venture with Hong Kong Metro and a French company.
