Me and my wife had our interview yesterday. We went to the first window and the woman some how froze our case in the system trying to back out of it to many times. Then we went to wait at the number two window.

We were called up because my wife was pregnant and they were nice enough to give us two choices, wait there or call us later because our case was still frozen in the system.

We decided to wait there for the interview. Three hours later they called us back up and went ahead and conducted the interview part, but could not finish the finger prints for my wife. They asked me some questions and my wife also. The consular said they wanted to approve the visa but could not because my wife needed to come back the next day for finger prints.

My wife returned today alone because i had to fly home today and the finger prints were done, they said to her the visa was approved. We paid the delivery fee to have the paper work sent to her home.

My wife gets home and her mother tells her that the embassy called, and to call them back. My wife calls the visa unit number and they tell my wife she could not be approved at this time because of some record they need to get. They told her not to worry about it this happens and they would call her back in for another interview??? What The hell are they doing???

Then they say to my wife it's some Ap process, it could take weeks or a few months they said, but they knew she was pregnant and they already sent some telegram message to what ever record they needed. They would not give details as to what they are searching for. Could some one please advise us what to do or expect now? My wife is soooo sad and heart broken. We were told it was approved and my wife gets home and gets this freak en phone call.

Sounds like her name did not clear all the computer name checks and will require additional follow up. The consulate cannot issue the visa until the DOS(and all other agencies) have cleared her name.

My husband, from the Dom Republic, was in AP for 11 months -- very common latin name, shared with a convicted drug dealer in NY. It sucks.

Wish you quicker clearance. Be strong for her. Name checks may take time but visas are rarely denied.

Hey Shane;

I know how you feel. We went to our interview and were put on AP. In lasted 30 days. You (not your wife) should contact the IV Center via e-mail once a week asking for updates on the AP. That is what we did, and they usually answered every time. Make sure you mention the fact that your wife is pregnant. Here's the e-mail address IVBogota@state.gov

Good Luck

Thank you for the information, yes we are worried about it. what normally causes this to happen? yes we are sort of concerned about a petty theft from awhile ago my wife did but was only issued a citation. Do you have to attend another interview after AP processing?

We too were put on AP after 1st interview - I did not go. I called DOS every single day and emailed the embassy every few days. We were given a 2nd interview at the end of this month. We have been told EVERYONE goes on AP after interview but I know that's not true as I see people go through all the time.

Unfortunatly, this seems like a normal process. My wife was also approved at the apointment and they took her passport. Told her to pick it up with visa in 2 days. Now, 30 days later, still in AP. They told her at the time her fingerprints were being checked. Who knows!

I feel it'll pass and all this will be over with sooner then later. You seem to feel like I did after hearing that. Yes, it sucks. All this waiting up till now only to be put into more waiting after approval. Hell, my wife moved out of our place and we didn't continue on with paying rent because she was to recieve her visa 2 days after her interview and rent was due the folowing week. Now she's floating around from friend to friend. Can't even go to her place in Colombia because the embassy in C.R. still has her passport.

Just read all these posts and it may help you to accept that alot of us are going through this mess. Of course it still sucks!

Just called DOS today and he once again confirmed AP. Though he couldn't say what for. He did tell me that not everyone goes through this but not to worry because a very large percentage do. So your not alone. He told me to expect a few more weeks, maybe a month. We'll see!

I heard back today from the embassy, this is what they wrote.

Dear Mr. Whitted:

We are very, very sorry, but in your wife’s case, there is an administrative process that is required by law to be completed before we can approve your wife’s visa. Unfortunately, we did not notice that this process was necessary until after your wife had departed the Embassy.

We apologize for the confusion and the system malfunction that resulted in your wife having to come to the Embassy twice, and we also apologize for the delay in issuing your wife’s visa. We are doing everything possible to expedite her case, and we are sensitive to the fact that she is pregnant. We are hopeful that this process will be resolved soon.

Again, many apologies for the inconvenience caused to you and your wife.

Sincerely,

IV Unit

From reading the posts on this site and from my own experience, I understand that if for whatever reason you don't pass interview first time (not denied but asked to provide additional info/fingerprints, etc) they automatically put you in AP.

By the way, senators/congressman can not expedite AP.
