Hello everyone! Im not sure where to post this question but i just wanted to know how did u apply for the ss#? Before we got married, my husband tried to apply for ss# but they told him that he needs to get an EAD first because it was a fiance visa. Im hoping that someone could answer my question. Im really worried. We filed the EAD application but still for it. It's almost a month now.

You don't need an EAD - seems like a lot of SSA employees don't know much about K1. I would try going back either to that office & hope for a different employee or to a different SS office. My husband went & had no issues - he didn't have anything but his passport & the I-94 that they stapled in it at the airport. Got his card within a week.

Kayla, that's great news about the visa!!

And Maggie, glad you made it safely to SC :)

Well here's the good news!!!

He called the consulate and did the same thing that the person Maggie posted about did, and he got his tracking number. The lady he spoke to was really nice and recognized his name because when they were processing the visas she said she thought "Finally! A name I can understand!" lol. But apparently he forgot to write the apartment number down on the envelope so they returned it to the consulate and it has been there since April 9th.

So now he has to call back today and see if he can go pick it up or if he needs to bring them a new envelope. If he's going to be down there already I don't see why he couldn't just pick it up.

But it looks like the wedding and everything are back on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats Kayla!

Oh tell her we love her too!

I haven't been looking, don't even know where to start looking from but I did tell her that nowadays the aos is going pretty fast so she should send it in, also tell her once she sends it in, they send her the reciept letter and a week later she gets the biometrics letter which he can walk in as long as they accept him.

Mathew gets to pick his visa up TOMORROW MORNING!!

Oh thank goodness. I thought I was gonna die there for a while.

Congrats again :dance::dance:

As for myself, I went to the doc this morning and she didn't give me a clue as to what could be wrong because it can be so many things but she did another battery of tests and I go back within 1 week. I honestly think it's stress and that once the wedding is over I'll be back to normal again and should be ok.

Kayla I am happy for you!!.. Krystle.. I hope the second appointment brings good news..

I saw something about an AOS case being expedited but no one said who or how they did it.. I didn't really have a chance yet to search too much further :(

POE was pretty easy, I was nervous of course.. got my picture, fingersprints, and paid.. they gave me back my list of items I was taking ..and I don't know how much of a search he did, i think he just glanced.. they let me go through with my cat food bag too which was open, i was surprised.

So far.. it feels weird honestly.. almost like I'm on vacation but knowing I'm staying and my family will be leaving soon... base life is.. interesting... and I didn't have a great go at it today...

i dont know.. its great..but im surprised how different it feels.

Maggie maybe I got the wrong impression from your post but you don't seem to like it... I don't know anyone who lives on base so clueless as to what it's like. Elaborate if you don't mind.

I lived on a Navy base one summer, when I worked for the Navy, but man, living on base is nothing like the real world and it's very surreal to know that people with big guns will check your ID and possible search your car every time you come in and out of the area you live, and if you forget your ID, it can be a big deal... I hated it, passionately - though I kept thinking while I was there that it might have been better if I was in the barracks or real housing and not living in the CBQ. Of course, a roach invested room that resembled Joe's Apartment and having my bras and panties stolen from the laundry service DEFINITELY made me miss my old crummy smelly dorm...

Anyway, Maggie, look around, my old base had a ton of spousal resources (general 'military wife'-type support, international spouse support, etc), and lots of little groups and what not. As not-real-world as the base is, they're much more used to people coming and going and cultural shifts more than any other community you'll find, so they've got more stuff set up. Your fiancé may or may not know about them or know as much as there is to know about them. I don't know what military branch your fiancé is in, but my naval base (nearly 10 years ago!) had an extensive website with links of the groups and who to contact and "new to the base" type resources. It won't help 100%, but, it may be a start. :)
