Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY) and others have unveiled new legislation that will ban anyone from texting on a cell phone or other personal electronic device while operating a moving vehicle. Your thoughts?

Here's the article:

They should toss in the idiots that eat, talk on the phone, do makeup, or try to re-arrange their back seats while driving...

Almost got sideswiped by a woman that was doing her makeup (with the drivers side sunblock mirror), as she ran through a red light....

Lucky for me I dodged her...

A study states that someone driving under the influence is 4 times as likely as a sober driver to be in an accident. The same study states that a person texting while driving is 8 times as likely to be in an accident!

I think it's a sensible law. Although there are many ways a driver can make themselves dangerously distracted....like a guy gawking at a female pedestrian walking down the street, but cell phone texting while driving has become so widespread and common. Having a law against it will deter most people from doing so.

I voted not allowed on a national level...but that is not to say that I don't do it sometimes!!! Although I've only ever done it in traffic or stopped at lights, not actually while moving....but still...dangerous.

State by state. Driving laws have always been regulated by the states and municipalities through

their respective traffic codes. I don't want the Federal government anywhere near the Traffic Code.

Just ban cell phones all together, and ban all cars and spend 50 trillion dollars on a public bus system so even if they are distracted by a female, they can't crash. The drivers must be castrated, so that they do not look either. Oh and they must not have ADD.

We need to ban gasoline, and incandescent lightbulbs, so the buses will be electric with LED lights (even for the headlights). They'll travel 20 miles before needing to be recharged. So if you have a long trip, be prepared for a Looooooooong trip. Their top speed is 15 MPH. And since we've banned brake fluid, and the pollution that brake dust creates, we have to stop the bus with our feet. However, since rubber has been banned because people with the rubber skin disorder have been offended, our shoe soles are made of wood and catch fire pretty easily. Since we've banned the use of water to put out fires because its wasteful, you'll just have to live with your hot feet. Excepting after this was enacted we banned the use of wood because it offended the trees, so each unik-driver must spend 30 years building up 24 inches of callous on his heels so he can stop the bus.

Should not be allowed. Anyone who thinks otherwise has never lost a loved one due to some fu#king idiot who thinks that it's more important to text his buddy about which bar there gonna hit after work than to watch where in the Hell he's going.

IT'S NOT THE DESTINATION ITS THE JOURNEY...AND WHAT A JOURNEY IT HAS BEEN

Hey, I like that idea about a bus system!
