you can also try rebtel :) you can look it up on which country ur calling to; my fiance and i made us of tollfreeforwarding and he ended up paying more than $1000 for less than a month! try rebtel, it's cheaper, and u can use either prepaid or autorecharge

http://www.rebtel.com

my fiance's stationed in okinawa japan, when he had to do a training for a month in hawaii, i would call him on his CELLPHONE through skype(i'm subscribed for a monthly unlimited calling to US/canada for $2.95 and it's free for me and him but you have to watch out for the minutes though;

so the USC must make sure to watch for the minutes spent on the phone; or have the foreign fiance/fiancee call on hours where there's unlimited minutes.. just ask your phone network what hours in the day when you can do unlimited calls :)

U can use magic jack to call a usa cell phone... I don't recall ever saying that u hook the jack up to ur cell phone. The ppl over seas use the jack to place a call to u... they can place the call TO your cell phone or land line....not FROM ur cell.

I hope this makes more sense. We also don't use the jack in our home coz it's not needed.

we bought the 1 jack, gave it a houston number (local to us) and sent that jack to his family over seas. They hooked that jack up to their computer and hook their home phone up to it and use it to call us whenever they want at no charge (either they call our home phone or they call our cell phone)

I keep thinking that I explain this the right way so plz let me know if this still seems confusing.

I never said that you said you hook of the magic jack to your cell phone. I just simply did not understand how you can call here or there on a cell phone after signing up with magic jack. I said that the landline had to be connected to the magic jack, and bc you could NOT connect a cell phone to a magic jack I did not understand how you could call free is all. After your previous post, I did understand "perfectly clear" what you were saying after you finally explained how you made the calls. Should have know not to persue this matter and try to help... always backfires it seems.

Set up magic jack with a local number to the city you live in. send the magic jack to them. they hook up the magic jack to their computer. plug their land line phone to that.

either you can call the magic jack number from your land line or cell phone with no international charges OR they can use the magic jack line to call your land line or cell phone.

there are no extra charges as it is a "local" call. the only charges are the typical incurred minutes if u use ur cell phone to call (just like if u use it to call anybody) or if he calls ur cell phone (just like u'd normally incur minute loss/or if ur over ur minutes, then overage charges when anybody calls ur cell phone)

I just called Tech Support with Magic Jack and asked them some questions... here was our chate log...

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

You are now chatting with 'Lloyd'

Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK419075883261X

Lloyd: Hello, how may I help you?

MouadsWife: I have a ? about using magic jack... and its features

MouadsWife: My question is.....

Lloyd: Okay.

MouadsWife: can i call another country "Morocco" using magic jack with my cell phone?

MouadsWife: I would have to use a land line yes?

Lloyd: What do you mean by using a magicjack with your cellphone?

MouadsWife: I have been in a discussion where we are discussing using magic jack to call Morocco. I was told that they can call USa using magic jack, by using theyre cell phone

MouadsWife: I have explained that is not possible because the phone has to be hooked up to the magic jack...correct?

MouadsWife: and a cell phone can not because they use a tower.

MouadsWife: I am also requesting information because I sell these where I work, and have many friends with family outside the country and would like to know more about its features.

Lloyd: Please do not plug the telephone to the wall jack. Just simpy plug the telephoen to the magicJack

MouadsWife: yes, as I thought. but a "cell phone" does not even come into the equation correct? A cell phone can not be used with a magic jack...correct?

Lloyd: Yes

Lloyd: Correct

MouadsWife: One more question if you do not mind...

Lloyd: Sure

Lloyd: It's alright

MouadsWife: If I was to purchase a magic jack... "I live in USA"... and I wanted to call Morocco, but they do not have a magic jack... I will be subject to fees correct?

Lloyd: Yes

MouadsWife: What if, I had a magic jack, and they had a magic jack, there would be no fees correct?

Lloyd: Call rate for Morocco is 0.25 cents per minute

MouadsWife: I sincerely appreciate your time, this has helped a great deal!

Lloyd: It is free of charge, Melissa

Lloyd: Glad to hear that

Lloyd: Is there anything else I may help you with today?

MouadsWife: Thank you.. this completes all my questions!! Have a great day!!

Lloyd: Thank you for stopping by to chat, I hope I did a good job at addressing your concerns. Please take a second to answer a one question survey about the service I provided. Please click the "close" button on the top right of this screen and the survey will appear. Thanks again!

MouadsWife: thank you...I will!

So all in all.... 1. If you have a magic jack and they do not you willbe subject to pay fees.. .25 a minute. 2. If you have a magic jack and they have a magic jack, them calling you and you calling them is free. 3. If you have a magic jack, and want to call them on they're cell phone, you will have fees. Its only landline to landline because the line hookd into the magic jack. 4. Thats goes for them too, if they want to call you, they have to use a landline.

Wow, thanks for the efforts! My fiance and I were talking about this, and he told me after researching that it won't work unless he is home, and if he is home, we might as well use icall or msn or skype to talk. LOL Really, I appreciate it!!

You make perfect sense. Ouadia and I have agreed that the magic jack will work perfectly when he is finally here. We will get one for his family, and that will solve our worries over phone charges to speak with his family. Thanks for the advice!

I thought I would throw in what I do-

We webcam/talk each night via msn chat for free. (okay, my monthly basic internet charge)

If I want to call him on my cell, I use Tel3 Advantage: https://www.tel3advantage.com/

It is 20 cents to Syria; somewhere around 17 cents per minute to Morocco.. Just look up the country you are calling.

Downside: I have to call into a special phone number before calling his number.

Upside: I can call him on my cell! I purchase minutes ahead of time; it tells me how many minutes I have left each time.

Quality is clear- can't even tell I am going through another company.

Early in my relationship, I made a $70 call one time. :o (I was upset) After that, I was determined to find something cheaper!

Check the rates to Syria on here... http://www.callingcards.com/shopping/rate_table1.asp With this calling card you will pay .12 cents a minute to Syria, and to Morocco its .10 cents. Again you still have that downside of having to dial a number prior to dialing his number. I first dial a 800 number which is on auto dial on my phone, enter a pin number, then his numbmer. But I like the rates.

if the call is clear and the rates are good.. that's all that matters.. the special number is just a small price to pay for getting cheaper calls ^_^

i got determined in makin the bill smaller when my fiance finally confessed how much money he spends calling me! I was schocked! lol he says it doesnt matter, but I'm practical..or sometimes, I just joke around telling him "do you know how many pairs of shoes you can buy with that?" hahaha makes him laugh but he understands my point lol

I always have a tough time explaining stuff so I just wanted to make sure that I had explained it properly. No bad feelings here. I'm glad that I did make it "perfectly clear" enough though :star: I think your input is very useful coz I'm sure that there were many others who had the same questions that you did. It's so much harder to type out stuff (for me) and make sense rather than speak it lol. I'm not the best at typing what I have in my head and many times my head and my hands don't work together well.

Don't feel bad, Amal. I had to actually see it hooked up to understand the configuration (Magic Jack plugged into computer, land line phone plugged into computer). It sure beats a headset and microphone!

We have two telephones, neither of them cordless, one for the Magic Jack and the other for the land line into the flat. I didn't know they made them anymore and there's nothing like being chained to one spot. Does Magic Jack work the same way with a cordless telephone?

Posted

Yeah, coz u plug ur phone line into it. with cordless...the phone itself is wireless but the base is connected to the Jack so it is alllll goooood

this is the company my husband uses and has no problems with. i think if he buys $100.00 worth they give him $15 in free minutes or something like this. i know he bargins with them and gets more. they even call him when his minutes are getting low to see if he wants to buy more. so he is never out of minutes....http://www.farrahtel.com/
