We hired a lawyer as well. It gives us piece of mind to have someone complete them who is familiar with the process.

Last year John had decided to do his divorce on his own since it was straight-forward (with the help of an online case mgmt account), but that ended up causing way more headaches with things not being filled out, and the forms being returned from the court for seemingly endless corrections... for us it was worth the money to have someone else deal with that side of things!

Good luck to you!

Certainly you can spend your money as you wish. But comparing a divorce case to this is not valid. This uses pre-printed forms, uniform in nature, no more complicated than a job application, asking personal information you know off the top of your head or have in your desk drawer. Unlike a divorce, where a lawyer CAN do a lot of things (not the least of which is represent you in court motions without you being there) in this case they can do nothing except fill in the blanks of the same forms with information you give them. You will, in essence, fill out the forms one way or another, either the attorney's "questionaire, or the original form. It costs you a couple grand to have him transfer the information to the forms available at this site. YOU will provide all the information, YOU will go to the interview. The attorney can do none of that for you. We see here as many mistakes by attorneys as by DIYers. If you read the instructions and proceed carefully, asking questions here when needed (to which you will get nearly immediate response 24/7) you will be fine.

Well, thinking we might make a mistake in our filing we made an appt. with a lawyer, they emailed some forms to us and they are dif. then what I see here They are immigration lawyers but now I am wondering why the forms are dif. Bio forms, affidavit, and letter of intent are all dif. And does the lawyer fill in the I129? more confused then ever. thanks for any input you can give

how are they different?

form numbers, versions. what exactly?

letter of intent is understandable because it is merely a personal statement

Pay...

They are data collection forms the attorneys use. Then his $12 per hour secretary fills in the data from those forms onto the official forms that are on this site for download free. 3 weeks after the OP gives all the data and documents to the attorney, he will call them in to sign the real forms which could have been at USCIS if it weren't for the attorney slowing things down. His letter of intent is just his example of the sample letter of intent here. I guess that makes it worth the price.

Not condoning lawyers, but the client does not have to physically sign the actual form. The G-28 is for that.

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

OH WELL, there are as many horror stories with using a lawyer as success stories! however, one thing for sure, he will have someone else to blame, when mistakes and delays become reality!!!

unless there is a complication with the case or unusual circumstances don't spend money on an attorney, save it for the honeymoon. All u have to do is fill the forms and check them twice, i recommend waiting a day before double checking. mail everything return receipt requested and wait.

Waiting is the biggest part of the game and an attorney can do nothing about that.

The lawyer will take more of your money away from you. If your case is not complicated, then they are of no help. But, if you want that peace of mind, then by all means go for it. Know that they may also make the process take longer since you have to submit info to them and then they may wait to send out your petition.
