Viva Mexico....I just can't understand why if you are soo all about Mexica..and you like the country and the culture...why you would tell or laugh at Mexican jokes.

Hey guess what...not ALL French eat crepes...not ALL French wear berets...just like not all MExicans are illegal immigrants. You generalizing about the French is like what I just did by generalizing about Mexicans...

given that, where was your outrage over this?

What exactly is racist or more accurately xenophobic about that statement in your view? He did not say Americans are this or that he expressed apparent views of some other people on this site.

No offense to people that do this but i never understand responding to a thread and not saying anything, or at least not saying anything clearly. If your view is "whatever" then i would suggest moving on you know? If you have a view to express then do so. Don`t be shy.

Racial stereotypes are simply dumb, and say more about the person repeating them than the group they are trying to lampoon.

As citizens of multiple countries, you would think it would be taken as red that 'racially based humour' is not particularly desirable.

is laughing at the French for obviously oversimplified stereotypes considered "racially based humor?"

Furthermore, I didn't know that being a citizen of a particular country had anything to do with race. There are many "races" in the U.S., or France for that matter.

Sometimes it's just not worth it... not worth getting knickers in a knot when you aren't going to change someone's mind. And I'll move on when "I" decide...ya know? ;)

But anyway...is THIS considered racist too?

What's a European's idea of heaven?

It's where the English are the police, the French are the cooks, the Swiss are the bankers, the Italians are the lovers, and the Germans are the engineers.

More or less. It really depends how far you take the analogy.

Just as I'm sure most americans are tired of being labelled as 'fat, gullible bushbots'.

Firstly i am not wound up at all i am just pointing something out as i see it. If you wish to be that way it is up to you but i have every right to call it how i see it. As for having my cake and eating it i think i just pointe dout how the example you just made was not racist or xenophobic. So there is no double standard.

The thing that people don`t seem to even notice is that Zidane is France and America and most if not all other countries are mad eup of different cultures and different races and different people. The very idea that anybody can sum up any country in a few blanket statements or stereotypes is of course rubbish.

Precisely! Which is why i noted earlier that being a citizen of a particular country has anything to do with race. There are many "races" in the U.S., or France for that matter.

I find it (not funny) but really ironic that in a thread about someone who grew up as the son of immigrants in one of the most notorious housing estates in France and has been targetted by Le Pen for being "not French enough" to find the most tired old cliches ("jokes") about crepes, surrender, berets

Move on when you want i just don`t see the point in responding and not saying anything. It seems like a waste of your time and it means i have to strain my scroll mouse a little more than i would if you had just restrained yourself from posting a few pointless words and an emoticon.

By the logic people are presenting...harmless jokes about a person based on his or her nationality...it's perfectly acceptable to have called Zidane a "dirty terrorist" because of his Algerian background?? Just a harmless generalization, right?

ummm....I don't think so.
