Hey everyone,

I've been a member of this forum for some time now. My fiance and I have been together since December '08. I'm 24 (almost 25), finished with my college days, and basically just working to save up for our future.

I'm not sure if there's anyone else on these forums my age, but man would it be lovely to find some people. I get so lonely sometimes. I don't really have a lot of friends, none really, all of my good friends from college have either moved away or are in relationships (that aren't long distance) which doesn't leave much time for me. I find it hard to relate to people my age because it seems like most of them are just looking for a good time and I'm looking for some good friends.

I couldn't really tell you what the point of this post is except to just tell SOMEONE that I'm freaking lonely. I have my fiance to talk to, but with him being 6 hours ahead I often find myself alone and bored during the evening. Does anyone else find themselves isolated or is there something wrong with me? I think I'm a pretty alright person...perhaps a little boring (meaning I don't go out and party and get completely wasted). I often times find myself thinking...man, I can't wait until I'm 30 and I have older friends that are in the same place I'm in, so coming over for tea actually sounds like a fun thing, not a drag.

I'm pretty good at being alone, I've always been a natural loner of sorts and prefer more me time than social time, but there's only so much I can take before I start running out of things to entertain myself with.

Anyway, just looking for some people to talk to. :)

A bit of good news from my side - I've been a smoker for 4 years (not as long as some people I know) and I haven't had a cigarette in a week! I have finally been able to stick to my commitment to quit smoking. It is super tough at times but wow, I really feel like a new person. :) Hurrah!

Congratulations on your one week! :) Keep up the good fight! It is so much worth it.

I just turned 25 so I figured I would come in and say hi! I don't make friends easily so I am alone a lot. The whole going out all night and blowing hard earned money for few beers in a loud bar where you need to scream to be heard is not my cup of tea! So it is hard for me to make friends who are on the same page.

When I feel lonely, I try to get out of the house, run errands, see a movie... Have you tried picking up a hobby? The best way to beat those odds moments of loneliness is to do something, anything. Just keep your mind busy!

And good for you for being yourself and realizing that it is okay.

*hugs* :energy:

Can only speak for myself being over 30 but most people passed their 20s have less time for friends as jobs and families take up time.

It's probably a good thing you can handle being by yourself at times. I know people who must always be around others even if they in unhealthy relationships.

Happy late birthday! :) I will be 25 myself in a month. I so agree with you about bars, blowing money, and screaming over crowds. Oh I definitely have a lot of hobbies. :) I've got 3 kittens running around my house at the moment, I am always improving my cooking skills and gardening as well. :) I still have yet to go watch a movie by myself, perhaps I should muster up the energy to do it sometime soon. What kind of hobbies do you have?

I'm actually saving up to build a worm composting bin, wooo...should be fun. :)

I think you're absolutely right. I intend to be just as busy with my family once everything finally comes together - but nothing wrong with calling a friend up once a week and having tea or dinner. :)

Hmmm..surely there are clubs, night classes that you maybe be interested in? Look to your hobbies and go from there, even volunteer in your spare time will find like minded people.

VJ is a good place to hang out and chat though, it can often make many lonely hours disappear.

Nice job on the non smoking, keep it up

We've all been there before!.. The stupid time difference being apart not having much in the way of friends. My wife, then fiancee came back to the US to put my K1 stuff together and was sort of stuck in that no mans land boat. I came here months later we got our own place and we're I suppose still sort of in the same boat meaning we don't really know that many peoeple our own age. Although she's made better progress at making new friends than I so far! I don't know what you mean by older.. 30? I'm 29 and most of my friends back home still party like they are 18? Although it'll catch up with them in the end, am not much of a party animal either couldn't do it all the time.

Hang in there on the smoking front!.. I smoked since I was around 14 till I was 25 and been off them now close to 4 years. I've no interest in em and don't miss smoking in the slightest! My advice is get a dog or a cat.. get a big cat if you can :D (well maybe not a lion) I would if I had the room but will have to settle for 2 small cats and a small dog for now :hehe:

We love kittehs on VJ.

Cheer up Appledrop, you are not going to feel this way forever. Focus on your future together with your other half. You are just in this situation for a while, not for the rest of your life. I get lonely/ bored too sometimes, but I fill those moments with sleep, or photography, annoying my cat or spending money on useless stuff I don't need online. That's always fun.

Or I come here and roll my eyes on 85% of the posts.

Getting a roommate is a good thing - then at least you have someone to talk to about what's for dinner, and someone to tell if you're going to be home late from work. What's really nice about mine is that she's also leaving for her Expat position just before Nik gets here, so no one to interrupt our newly-wedded bliss.

I'm 25 myself, and I totally hear you about the whole not being interested in loud clubs etc.

Part of my problem dealing with the loneliness aspect is that I don't feel like I have time to take up any activities with other people. What with work 9 hours a day, trying to get to the gym, my looong girl routine in the morning, and getting a decent amount of sleep, my schedule's pretty packed as it is.

Anyway, now I fill those inbetween times on visa journey while I wait for it to be time for Nik to arrive. :)

This sounds like it was written by me! to a T!...well ok besides the quitting smoking thing, I really need to get on that, my fiance hates that I smoke. I am also 25, college days are over, not interested in hanging out in clubs and really just more interested in REAL friendships and of course maintaining the ones that I already have. That said my college friends, we don't keep in touch as much as we I would like, but thats because we don't live in the same place anymore, same with my HS friends, because everyone moved away to different places, but there is always the few that you know you will keep in contact for a long time no matter what.

I am one of those people I am ok with being alone, I like my private time, I also like to get out with my friends, but I do not need them around me 24/7 or calling, texting every day. It definitely has been hard being away from my fiance, thank goodness I live at home right now, but he's been living by himself and he is really lonely, I don't blame him. The deployments for us are going to be hard, we are going to get a dog eventually. After spending so much time apart during this visa process I hope we do not get separated due to the military for a long period of time, but I know it comes with the territory.

I'm a male. I have a overclocked computer with quad SLI using Nvidia GTX 290 graphics cards, Asus WS SuperComputer Motherboad, 12 GB DDR3 2000MHZ memory, Intel Core I7 975 CPU....I use it to play video games on my lonliness time. I spend over $4k on this rig.

And, I also have the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii! I'm not in my 30s yet. It's my dream come true. And I never get lonely. And if I'm sick of one thing, I can come to VJ for a while.
