I saw a guy on a talk show once, trying to justify how he was dumping his girlfriend because he didn't want to marry someone who wasn't a virgin (he felt "purity" was somehow important). Bizarre, given that he had taken the girl's virginity in the first place: she was practice (of a sort).

It all comes down to sexist conceptions of women, and the view that relationships are possessions where the woman is a trophy.
