Will a phone call to the call center indicate a "touch" ?

I called the USCIS call center to just ask a general question and they asked for my case number. If they pulled it up during the call, would that be considered a "touch" ?

Common sense tells me "yes"

Thanks for the input....

Why would the date change when I log on to the USCIS site then? Yesterday I logged into view the case status and it just had the NOA1 date. I called the call center to ask a question, and then just logged in to look at the case status, and the date was updated to today under "last updated"

Your online access was probably just set up. It happens to everyone. Calling USCIS won't get you any touches unless you are talking to an actual physical service center employee and not the paid contractors that answer the normal number.

NOA 2. Really?

It could be that it is just a coincidence. Your call - to they were doing "something" with

your file.

Yeah, but I just sent my petition off recently, I would think it is far to soon to see anything updated. I was under the impression that the file would sit in a storage room until pulled for review by an AJ. The CSC rep told me they are now working on Feb/Mar petitions and working to meet the 5 month processing time for I-129F. I guess I'm a little confused to why the "last updated" date would change. My logic was that it was because of my phone call. I've been set up to view the case status from the second the check was cashed (sent I-129F on 6/30/09, they got it on 7/1/09, check cashed 7/2/09, NOA1 dated 7/2/09, NOA1 hard copy recv'd 7/8/09).

Do they update the status when the NOA1 is sent?

BTW - What does a "touch" look like when you log into your case online? Maybe that's where I'm confused. Does the "last updated date" just get updated or are you able to see more info?

touch is when the "last updated" date changes.....sometimes the info given to you for your case status online changes and sometimes it does not. But the last updated date changes when someone handles your file.

There are 3 ways a "touch" could be generated. A call to the nonexistent RFE line. An email by a rep to Division 12 or an adjudicator processing your file.

I just went online and checked on the case status again today, and the "last updated" date has been updated to today's date. If it's to good to be true, it probably is. I seriously doubt they could be working on my petition this soon. I called the USCIS customer service line and got one of the robots over there. She told me that my case is being "worked on." I told her this is impossible as I just got my NOA1 several days ago. I asked her to define "worked on." She could not provide me with any additional information.

What are the typical reasons for a "last updated" date within the USCIS site being updated?

I just noticed this disclosure online when reviewing the case:

"* Note on "Last Updated" date:

Your case may have a new "Last Updated" date and you may receive an Email Notification of your case being updated, without the status of the case changing. This is due to internal USCIS processing being performed on your Case. This will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date, but may not result in a different status message."

What does "processing being performed on your case" mean? My file being placed in a storage box in some huge room filled with files?

You were lucky to see any touch actually. A LOT of us never see any touches until the process is complete with the USCIS, and some never see any change status even though their files have been already sent to the NVC. I never saw any touchs until then. It generally just means that someone has looked at, or done something with your file. But I wouldn't count on it to mean anything significant unless it says Notice of action sent (ie, your NOA2).
