Oh gosh, its on! Just recieved notice from the Embassy, as soon as my checklist is put together, they will schedule me for an interview, yes!

Have a few questions about getting work authorization when I get in to the US... Should I apply for a temporary one at the airport and have it adjusted the next day at the local office? How long can I be working on that one, and can I apply for jobs right away when I get to the US? Or is it better to wait and apply later, have read somewhere that its not completely smooth sailing with this, getting work permit and such right away, and I do need to start working pretty much as soon as I get there.... Thanks friends!

You will be eligible for a Social Security Card when you arrive, but noone is allowed to hire you until you get and EAD. You can't get an EAD until after you get married and file for AOS. You can submit the EAD application at the same time as AOS or after. You can expect the EAD to take 2 - 3 months after you file.

So whats the difference between a temporary EAD that you file for at the airport and the one you apply for with/after the AOS. I already have a social security number from when I studied in the USm but its not authorized for work though... Thanks for helping me out!

the temporary one from POE is good for 90 days...

I thought it became invalid once you were married..? I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Probably because for most of us, there is a huge gap between the 90 days of the K-1 and when the EAD arrives. Our 90 days expired long ago, and no EAD is in sight. If DH had been able to find a job, he would have had to quit at the end of December.

10/14/05 - married AbuS in the US lovehusband.gif

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

It's not so basic for everyone. You were very klucky that you just happened to receive your EAD card before your temporary EAD expired. This is usually NOT the case.

EAD applied for in Oct. Still waiting for it and no luck, yet, in getting the interin EAD either - "Fill out this form and we'll get back to you." I have a job lined up already, just need the authorization. Believe me, it can be a hassle.
