How many of you traveled immediately home after recieving your green card? Anton has been away from Alberta for 9 months. He's afraid he may loose his residency in Canada if he doesn't return soon, plus he wants to see his father who is needing some help to get ready for winter on the farm...

Well, in the eyes of Revenue Canada, Anton already has lost his residency status. He hasn't lost his citizenship, but seeing as Anton does not reside 6 months plus a day in Canada each year, and is a considered a permanent resident in the USA's eyes, technically he is not a resident of Canada.

I just went to Mexico for vacation for 5 days using my greencard and had NO issues (mexico is stricter than canada for re-entry to the US).

Just make sure he doesnt stay more than 180 days consequitevely out of the US because his greencard will be revoked.

forgot to metion - if he does want to stay overseas for more than 180 days, there's an application he can fill out to get an extended stay approval. Look on the USCIS forms if he falls into this scenario..

I got my card in Feb and went back home to Alberta in May :) they stamped my PP I showed my card and the fellow told me to keep track of how many times I travel between the Us&Canada

I think you are referring to the rules about applying for naturalization, rather than for the Green Card.

An exit of more than one year without a re-entry permit certainly goes a long way toward losing your Green Card, but not 180 days per se. The re-entry permit (application form I-131) is for trips of more than one year, but less than two years.

Oh yeah, my DAH travelled almost immediately with his new Green Card.

At our AOS interview, Sujeet's passport was stamped and the man said he could travel that very same day on the stamp if he wanted to. So there should be no problem at all leaving right away for a trip.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Is your husband a permanent resident of Canada, or a Canadian citizen? I ask because under "country" you put Austria/Canada.

If he is not a Canadian citizen but a PR, he has to be in Canada for at least 6 months every year. He can file for a Returning Resident Permit (Canada) which will allow him to stay outside of Canada for over 6 months.

I travelled a week after receiving my AP and 2 days after getting the GC (that was already planned, GC or not).
