Worst Excuse you have EVER given for not being able to go to work...

So, I'm doing a MAJOR project at work right now and it already started...

I needed to get tomorrow off because I've gotta go do my NEXUS thing in Toronto.

My boss is already on vacation because she's a terrible person and leaves her assistant to start the project, even though she's in charge.

So, I had to make up an excuse not to come into work tomorrow and I feel REALLY bad about it. I can't even tell you what I said cause I don't want any of you to think I'm that terrible of a person.

So, what's the worst excuse you've ever given, or most bizarre/creative, to get out of work when it's really been needed?

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

i bet u used the "death in the family" excuse, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Nope! No death in the family. I'm not telling you!

Trail-Usually I would do it like that, which is the appropriate way. But a month ago, before I knew I had to take a day off for NEXUS, my boss had already requested tomorrow off. There was NO way the vice president was letting me take the day off just because I needed it. He would have asked me to wait. I was desperate!!!

Rule here is first come, first served. We use a calendar vacation where you have to write the days that you would like off in advance, except for emergencies like family sickness (fever, flu) stuffs that you can't handle.

Which doesn't work because then people have to make stuff up to get a day off (like treble lol)

Exactly! And it's not like I don't have the days because I do!

I can't really think of a worst excuse ever..... but I did call in sick, once, to be on a tv game show. I was supposed to be at some big conference so I knew they wouldn't have given me the time off.

I remember one person I used to work with..... I can't remember how many times her Grandma died. I think it was three or four. I guess if you're going to be an habitual liar with poor long term memory you should really keep a database of your excuses.

Looking forward to hearing what happens at your Nexus interview, Amanda.

I can't. Seriously. I feel like scum!

I mean I've called in sick when sick but nothing like this ever before. I guess it had to happen some time.

I once said I had food poisoning (I had really gone to Canada's Wonderland the day before and I was home late and tired). When my boss pressed how I got food poisoning, I said that I had packed a lunch for CW. I had stupidly left the egg salad sandwiches in the lockers by the front (in 30+ degree weather) and then ate it hours later  Which I would never do, she bought it though!

The best one i've heard comes from my fiances mom, who told me someone called in once and said they couldn't make it because they had heartburn.

I also enjoy the "death in the family" excuse when the person forgets they already claimed that family member died. She said she had an employee who called in saying his grandma died on 3 seperate occasions.

Or, my personal favorite... cramps :P
