why not have an airline that caters to large people - feed them twinkies, have a smoking section, all of that.

Vice Airways. Free happy hour on all flights over 3 hours, including hotwings, jalapeno poppers, and cotton candy & mountain dew for the kids.

And there should be a porn channel.

Ok I want to fly vice air now.

Yay!!!

Me too! Twinkies and ciggies? Sounds good to me!

and let's not forget the p0rn sister!!

It would be terrible if you bought a ticket 6 months in advance of a flight (as a lot of people do) and you put on weight during that time so that you were no longer eligible for that ticket. What would the airline do then?

A couple of laps around the terminal and a purge in the lav might get you on that 8:15 to Orlando!!

Would there be a 'fat people only' comfort airline, expensive but with huge chairs and gourmet meals?

If there's a profit to be made in it, yes.

That's why we need a federal airlines...for the people.

That's the 'standing room only' flight, right? :)

Why is that other nations have their own airlines but we don't?

Because you are special?

I would like to let you know we are not special in this matter, we do have our own airlines. American Airlines

Well that brings up a interesting question, if our airline idea was to be should we make a exception for pregnant woman. I say yes.

Yeah, good point. SkinnyAir would have to make an exception for pregnant women, that's just only fair. But then again, it goes totally against the pay per pound idea.

But I don't think SkinnyAir would have smaller seats (I agree Nessa, I'm really skinny and the seats are already a but small). SkinnyAir would keep the same size seats we have now, just change you more if you have extra weight.....

Here's some interesting tidbits:

..half the fuel on long-haul flights is used just to carry the gas for the trip, and suggested that if fuels costs continued to rise there might be a return to the days of shorter hops for refueling.

.....

This article reports that airlines average 49 revenue-passenger-miles per gallon of jet fuel. That's about 20 gallons per 1K miles/pax. Jet fuel is about $2.10/gallon recently, so $42/pax/1K miles.

If the average pax + bags weighs 200 lbs, that's 21 cents per pound/1K miles.

Not sure how cargo fits into that equation.

And of course, that's not the marginal cost - the empty plane itself is heavy and that cost is buried here. But it's a ballpark starting point.

mmm 2/3 of the price is too tempting to pass...however, airlines seats are already small enough, so I don't know how much they could gain from selling only to skinny people.

Saludos,

Caro
