Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I had cash piled on my dresser until Reagan got elected... within a few years of that disaster it was paycheck to paycheck... 20 years later and the dollar is still not where it was back then.

Is your standard of living today better, worse, or about the same, as it was when you were a child?

If you have children, do you believe their standard of living as adults will be better, worse, or about the same as yours? If you don't have children, pretend you just did (ta-da! surprise!) and hypothesize.

My answers: My parents had a better standard of living than I do. I don't have kids but if I did I believe they'd be better off than I am.

Better, my Mother and Father less so, they've had to work really hard to get where they are now. Married at 18, having three kids before the age of 24 was not easy and are still together and I respect them a lot for that.

I come from a higher class family and had all I could ask and some more growing up, although we were taught simple values and were never ostentatious. Big house, changing cars every year to keep with the current models, private schools (public education in Brazil is a joke), federal universities (brazilians will attest that federal universities although free have a higher educational level and for that reason is the aim of pretty much every high school student), renting beach houses for vacation, etc. were part of my life growing up.

My husband's family is lower middle class that worked hard so that Luis had all he needed (private school and college, games, brand clothes, etc) and same way I did he also learned good values. He and I are pretty much a poor couple. We're both recent college graduates who didn't accept much family help and decided to start from zero. We live in a cheap rental, our car is an old hand me down, we pretty much own nothing and live sparingly, not that the current economic crisis (which hit PR hard the exact year we got married) did any good.

We want to have a much better life, we work hard to get there, but we know how to live as we must even if we took a big step down from how we lived before. I hope that when we do have kids they'll have a life similar to what we had, if not mine at least similar to what Luis had.

When I was a child, my family did everything for me. Now I have to do most things for myself, so I'll vote that my standard of living was better when I was a child :P

I've got mine. My kids have theirs to get, so me better.

My parents had a better standard of living than I do. I don't have kids but if I did I believe they'd be better off than I am.

So what are you really saying here? That you're a loser?

Yes, that is why I voted Democratic in 2008.

No surprise. Losers vote **.

If you're a socialist you have a bidet

oh oh

Yup. I don't apologize for my God-given defects. I embrace them. Voting Democratic is just part of that.

Of course if you're really really well off - someone wipes your ####### for you!

Both. Depending on how you define "standard of living". Sure, now I go out for dinners, concerts and still live debt free aside from a mortgage. As a kid I lived in the countryside next to a huge lake with tons of land around me and could run around and play freely without a care in the world. Does standard of living depend on what money can buy or peace of mind, enjoying what you have? "Lagom" is my way of life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagom

My kids. I hope they will have the best of two worlds. :)

Btw. Socialists can do porta-potties and skip bidets because our ###### does not stink. ;)
