Is your standard of living today better, worse, or about the same, as it was when you were a child?

If you have children, do you believe their standard of living as adults will be better, worse, or about the same as yours? If you don't have children, pretend you just did (ta-da! surprise!) and hypothesize.

My answers: My parents had a better standard of living than I do. I don't have kids but if I did I believe they'd be better off than I am.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Better & if I had kids, they would be better off too, financially. Neither of my parents went to college and it took a long while before my dad's businesses really took off.

But then again, they might have had more cash-flow if they didn't have kids so young.

It's all relative I think and usually generations improve and so it's tricky to do a direct comparision. For instance, my mom at my age had two kids and had already been married for 10 years ~ always weirds me out that. Heh!

I, on the otherhand, went to college, traveled & lived abroad, don't have kids, got married closer to 30 than 20, and both of us completed post grad.

Does that make sense?

Interesting question though.

Standard of living equates to the quality of toilet paper you're using - rock bottom if you use your hand, clumps of moss or old leaves, a little better if you're using newspaper or that tracing paper stuff and best if you're wiping your ####### with sheets of perfumed silk.

The ply of TP is also a good measure of prosperity.

I have a better standard of living.

I'm having more fun that my parents did at my age and doing more (travelling, eating out, etc) but that's because I don't have kids. If I had kids, I'd probably be a lot more worried than they were about sending them to public school. Buying a house is a lot more expensive but that's partly a result of where I live now. I had a better healthcare policy than I have now (and the one I have is pretty good by today's standards) as a result of all the greedy unions in Detroit

I guess it's a mixed bag in some ways.

Of course if you're really really well off - someone wipes your ####### for you!

"Is your standard of living today better, worse, or about the same, as it was when you were a child?"

Better now for various reasons, family had a lot of financial struggles for most of my childhood/teen yrs.

"If you have children, do you believe their standard of living as adults will be better, worse, or about the same as yours?"

I have no idea. I hope better, but they have to make good decisions and I don't know what things will be like here by then.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

"Is your standard of living today better, worse, or about the same, as it was when you were a child?"

It's more of a struggle now... but a lot of this is due to personal choice. The road less traveled by doesn't always pay well...

"If you have children, do you believe their standard of living as adults will be better, worse, or about the same as yours?"

i hope better... it may be rough in the beginning, but ultimately, i hope they will be better off...

and then i can live with them...
