Muslim Americans find inspiration in Obama's speech

Except that I have seen the bigger picture. I wasn't Muslim my whole life and post 9/11 I definetely wasn't. I didn't convert until 2004. I also worked on Capitol Hill and have a completely broad opinion - not to mention have a master's certificate in Homeland Security Management. I get it I really do.

I dont think you do if this is your conclusion. This country has gone out of there way to make the distinction and we could go around and around on this issue. I would like to add that I was happy that Obama brought up the stereotype issue even though I dont see it as a huge issue in the states but I know that it does exist and theres no need to make comparisons like whos stereotypes who more when in this Cairo Speech type situation. That said I do think its important to also understand the difference between the two, I more often than not think that the US gets shafted when it comes to this issue, we are stereotyped often as being ignorant of Islam and thinking most are terriosist.

There is a difference between what the government says and what the general consensus is. Same as a person is smart but people are dumb. Injustices, stereotypes and prejudice exist regardless of which group is the scapegoat of the century. My Italian grandparents went through the same thing as I am now when they came to this country. There always has to be someone to push things off on.

the only thing i see/hear/read in the media is "Islamic extremists" coupled with the misuse of words like "jihad" and "madrassa" and all sorts of other stuff. have any of these journalists even visited a local mosque here in the US? i thought "investigation" was part of their jobs?

They don't have to. All the mosques have been bugged by the FBI and the journalists can get the tapes
