Here is a quick question for you.If my soon to be wife gets here, and we finish the AOS,and all of that. Can she leave the country and not have a problem getting back in?Second question, can she get a US passport, or should she keep her passport?

Reason i ask, her passport expires in 2011.Should she renew her passport, for travel purpose in the future,or can she get a US passport, after she gets a greencard?

She will get a US passport when she becomes a US citizen. As a LPR she will use her PI passport.

She can't leave for years and years and expect to get back in. The general rule is no more than one year away (I think, but it varies, some say 6 months).

So best not to plan to move away from the US until after she gets a US passport (with citizenship after 3 years as a GC holder).

When she has her green card (the AOS application) she can travel and return to the US without a problem as long as she is not away from the US for more than 6 months. There is a special permission required if she plans to be away longer than 6 months (and not more than 2 years). She is also able to travel during the AOS process when she receives her AP (advanced parole) - filed at the same time as AOS on form I-131.

She will be a permanent resident until she applies for US citizenshp. She is allowed to apply for US citizenship 3 years after she receives her green card. Once she is a US citizen she is allowed to apply for a US passport. Until then she needs to keep her current citizen's passport for travel purposes, so yes, renew it when it comes due.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Yes, after AOS ahe can travel. Even before if she has an AP but she will have to be here for the interview. If she will be out of the US for more than 6 months it is adviseable to get an AP.

She cannot get a US passport until she becomes a citizen. She can renew her current passport and may be able to do it at a consulate here (Phillipine consulate) but check on the rules for that

So, it would be best for here to renew her passport there?Reason, i ask this question we plan on coming back to the philippines and have a wedding there for her family. In the US, we are just having a civil wedding. We plan on doing that after about YEAR of her being here.
