Hi everyone!! I ahve my AOS inteview on July 14 and on the appintment notice they say the u need another type of identification other than the passport. A government issued identification. The problem is that I dont have a driver's license, so I guess I need a State ID, from Ohio State. I have a few questions about this:

Where do u apply for the State ID?

How much does it cost?

What do u need to bring?

And especially how long it takes. I will apply probably on July 7 or July 9 at the latest, and I am afraid I wont make it on time getting one b4 July 14. Is there anyway to get it on time?

Thanks in advance (F)(F)

Maria

Did you not apply for an EAD card? That would certainly be another form of identification you could use.

Hi Maria,

Every state is different when it comes to state ID. According to the web, to get a state id license in Ohio, you need 2 forms of identification, one contains your name & DOB (so passport is fine) and the other contains your social security number (so your SS card is fine). The cost is $8.50 (according to: http://bmv.ohio.gov/driver_license/id_card.htm). I had a driver's license in Ohio, but never experienced getting a State ID before. Getting a state ID is immediate in most states. You go in, fill out the forms, pay & take your pictures. It's simple, other than the long lines at the DMV!

Good Luck!

sukie,

The requirement is to have a government issued photo ID. The UK government should be as acceptable as any other.

Maria, your passport is government issued ID. It doesn't have to be US issued ID. So just the passport will suffice.

However, if you do want ID you can get it from DMV.... I don't drive, so I got sick of carrying my passport for ID to buy alcohol.. so I got a Virginia state ID card from the dmv... expect a long boring wait there though.. their staff are soooo slow! But it only costs $10, and you can go to the DMV website to see the things you need to take with you.. a bill in your name at your address, your passport, one of the notices of action.. the one for the I-485 is best. It costs $10 and you get it straight away.

But, like I said, you don't need it.. your passport is sufficient... that is all they actually ask for, an that is all the guy doing my interview said I needed.

Thanks guys.....thats what I thought since I went to the biometrics appoitments with my passport only. On the appointment notice they say that I need another form of government issued ID other than the passport. Thats where I got confused. Mike got out of the Army on Sept 2004 with a medical dischargement and they took his ID away obviosuly, but I still have mine (form the Government with my pic and everything) since I was not with him that day (I was waiting for him in Rome) they couldnt take mine away. I am just afraid to use it cuz I am scared that they will start asking questions like...if he is out of the rmy, why do u still have ur military ID? And they want to know how he got out etc etc. Do u think that even if I bring my military ID they wont start bothering us?

Yodrak, thanks. I already entered the USCIS building in OKC with my British Passport for Biometrics, and this is what it is referring to on the appt letter, so I think I am fine

Sukie

You haven't gotten a OKIE-homa ID yet?! ;) I thought you would have been clammering to get one of those! :P
