I thought about that as well. It seems that there are only direct flights to Atlanta with KLM. I'll just try to book the best flight when the time comes. Thanks!

The only way you will get Charlotte POE coming from Africa would be to connect through Frankfurt or Munich on USAirways. Just book the best flight itinerary that you can.

VISA APPROVED!!!!!

If you are two hours away from Charlotte, you must live around Raleigh if I am not mistaken. There is an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Nigeria via Ethiopia directly to Washington Dulles. Atlanta is about 5 1/2 hours away from Raleigh, but Washington Dulles is about 3 1/2 hours away. I thought I give you another POE close to Raleigh area. Good Luck.

Hello there, thanks! I'm actually in Greensboro. Raleigh is about an hour away. Atlanta about 6 hours away. I never heard of Washington Dulles. I'll look into it because it is alot closer. Do you know the name of the Ethiopian Airline? I'll try to research it.

Hello all,

I know every airport is not considered POE? How do you find a list of them. I'm from North Carolina and just curious of knowing where the closest POE will be located. Is it Atlanta??

Regardless of final destination, POE (Point of Entry), is the first American location that your plane lands in.

I am also from NC, Raleigh-Durham is also a POE if you fly Air-Canada, British Airways or Alitalia.

POE is not particularly important ... except... (unless this practice has stopped, which I don't believe it has...) at JFK it is reported that, when coming in on a K-1 visa, you can get a stamp which authorizes your fiancee to work (e.g. no need to wait for EAD application). I have not heard of other POE's doing this for K-1 visas, although the entire practice seems shrouded in mystery :D

Other than that, book whatever every flight itinerary works best for you to get your fiancee here at the most convenient final destination and most reasonable price. If Charlotte is the preferred final destination, it need not be the POE... it could simply be the final stop of a multi-leg journey.

i heard jfk was the best airport to fly into on a k-1

This is a bit of misinformation (for lack of a better word) - while true you could get a temporary EAD at JFK (temporary being key since it is valid for only 90 days) and does not mean one doesn't have to wait to do the 'actual' EAD (because you do; at least most folks will). Also, the value of the Temp. EAD is questionable since more often than not, most employers will not hire a person with this temp. status (in many cases they simply can not).

That's true, that's why I was wondering how people arrange it.

Not all airports are designated as US ports of entry.

But if an inbound flight is from outside US borders, it can only land at airports that are.

Thank you. I'll look up Ethopian Airlines. My sister married guy from Ethopia, though he was already in the states. You look related to him. His name is Sam as well. Lol, Thanks again.

Well, if you want your significant other to come in to Atlanta or DC area, you just book the flight from Nigeria whichever airline is flying to those specific destinations in the US and that is it. A flight that comes in from overseas and arrives in the US cities wherever that city may be like Detroit, New York, Washington DC, Raleigh, or Atlanta etc., that Airport is a POE. Choose which city is closer to you and book a flight, that is it. Best of luck.
