There are basically two "lines" US citizen/resident or "All passports". You should go to "All passports". There will be several officers serving this line and they will tell you which one to go to. The number of officers will vary depending on how busy they are, flights expected, etc. Your wait time can be seconds or can be 30-60 minutes. They will know what to do with a K-1 visa. Just show your passport and give them the sealed envelope. They may not ask any questions. They looked at Alla's papers, stamped her passport and I-94 and said "Get married in 90 days or less". That was all.

Hi.

I have been through O'hare 6 times in total and every time has been pretty quick even during the mad rush on the days running up to Christmas. Wait times for me have been 15-30 mins at tops but as previously mentioned can be down to how many other aircraft have come in at a particular time.

As for the number of lines ? well if memory serves me correctly there are 10+ individual "cubicles" which are split between US passport and non US passport lines. they do adjust the ratio of each depending on the flow of people so it is not set in stone. You stand in line and a member of staff will point / direct you to the next available free stall.

The only word of caution I would suggest is... there is a yellow line you have to stand behind it till you are called. I have seen some ignore that simple request and it ticks them off royally.

As for experiences of passing through since we filled for our K1? I was asked a few questions by the border guard the first time, asking me what I did for a job etc. but nothing heavy nor to be worried about, The second time was simple and routine.

I would have no qualms going through O'Hare but after doing some research. I think I will go through Dublin (as long as the air fare stays as cheap as it is). US border control is IN Dublin so I can fly the transatlantic leg of the journey knowing that everything has been done. :)

WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES / a new life is starting
Si, man! :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

New policy for Greencard holders in O'Hare?

I have been a Permanent Resident since 2006 and since gaining residency have always used the US Citizen line in O'Hare and never had a problem. I just returned from a 2 week visit in the UK and joined the U.S. Citizen Line as usual. Got to the front of the line 15 minutes later and was told that as I was NOT a US Citizen, but JUST a Permanent Resident I would have to line up all over again in the All Passports line. I argued it, but was told that this was the POLICY. Well, anyone who knows O'Hare realizes that this can be a 45 min-60 min nightmare. In the end I missed my connection, no more flights that day so had to stay in an airport hotel overnight.

Anyone heard of this change or was I just unlucky to get a horrible immigration officer?
