I have a friend and his wife just came here and she does not yet have a work visa, but if she was offered a job cleaning a friends house a few times a week to help her out because she is an older lady, would that be illegal or would it be okay since she is just helping someone with their home? thanks.

He told me his lawyer said it was okay, and another question I have is what if the husband helped with her and he accepted the money? or should he just do it alone?

lawyers aren't always right. as for the latter part of that, i'd suggest just leave it alone.

the lawyer probably figured her chance of being caught would be negligible, and it probably is. but it's still against the law if it's for a wage. since the billionaires in this country know how to get around the law, they would probably suggest that the older lady should be offering a gift in return for someone helping around the house.
