No, but we should assume all statements should end with, " in my opinion". That , to me, is reasonable..unless specifically stated otherwise.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

No, but we should assume all statements should end with, " in my opinion". That , to me, is reasonable..unless specifically stated otherwise.

Here's what I'm getting at:

Someone says "You should respect Catholic Priests, they give up so much to serve their communities".

Someone else responds with "that doesn't hold, some Catholic priests are nazi sympathisers who run child sex slave rings, your statement that we should respect all of them holds no water"

If the statement is read as "(within reason) You should respect...." then it alows everyone to discuss the main point of arguments, not quibble about pedantry. In this case the real issue should surely be whether self sacrifice is admirable and in a reasonable argument that would still be on the table.

Basically if someone says "this group good" and another says "your argument is ####### because x was part of that group" I'm saying that by assuming that "within reason" was implicit, it limits counter examples to ones where the major trait of the person offered as a counter is actually in some way related to the group in question

Similarly, if I had written:

"you should respect vegetarians, they have a set of ethics which respects animals"

and you respond:

"No way!, Hitler was a vegaterian, so vegetarians suck!"

would I be guilty of Vegetarian bashing?

This is the internet....... so you'll never get a reasonable discussion without people breaking in with failed logic to support moronic points of view.

I think its interesting that this is how a lot of O/T discussions go - and the assumptions that everyone must be pigeon-holed into needly divided "sides" before their views can be addressed.

To every rule there's at least one exception. Problem is sometimes you state a rule and other people just want to comment on or emphasize on the exceptions.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

so true....so true!

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

That's why we have political parties, religious sects, sports teams, clans and tribes. We can't know of all beliefs of an individual but we do have some idea based on their affliations.

Goes back to a friend or foe orientation of our ancestors to survive or work together toward a common goal.

Another one who believes that #######. Rational thought is what separates humans from the rest of the beasties. We can recognise patterns of behaviour and reject them if they do not conform to a more modern belief system. You don't go around trying to 'mount' every female on heat these days now do you? Yet, our ancestors thought this perfectly normal and natural behaviour.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
