5 - anyone lower???

Wow, the two lowest are in Jersey.

And yet, it's still the most densely populated state - damn rural/suburb pockets are skewing our walkability! Granted I have no want to live in either Camden or Jersey City...

Hoboken might be cool.

For a day or two.

My home in suburbia (Georgia) got 6 - hehehe, I can walk to my car and need to drive everywhere else! Too right.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I hope this website is part of a permanent change in the way people buy homes. Imagine if home buyers will now expect or demand a standardized ratings system on the walkability of a home? This could really revolutionize future residential developments. Very promising.

It's already feeding into Zillow.

This is quite a change from urban sprawl lure that has dominated residential development for the last 50 years.

I wonder how complete the index is though. I'm sure its a good indicator but maybe some stuff gets missed off and the price of a home changes.

Here's an example, the Walk Score is at the bottom.

I think this will have big impact on home buyer's choice of home. Just seeing the term 'Car Dependent' conjures up a negative image in my mind where I have to drive everywhere.

This is very promising.

But it's no different than other indicators that have been used as value assessments to the overall price of the home. And for so long, things like aesthetic factors, have dominated the selling points of homes. I think people are going to re-prioritize what are the most important selling points of a home and walkability will rank up as one of the top ones.

I disagree. Depends on the buyer and what kind of neighborhood they want to live in.

When gas was nearing $5 a gallon - I think that left a lasting impression into everyone's minds about cars. Add to that the majority of Americans who believe that Global Warming is a serious issue, and people are going to thinking more along these lines.
