What's the big deal? This is the same program Bush tried to get through Congress just before 9/11 made everyone forget about it. As far as work related, when the seventh largest economy in the world (California) is on the rocks, and the San Joaquin Valley can't get the water for crops this year, you watch. They will be an exodus of biblical proportions! Last couple of years, there was not enough farm workers to go around. The fence works. Now, they are all standing around, out of work, just like everybody else.

+100. the points of action in the OP article are identical to the bush plan, with the exception of bush's requirement that aliens must return to home country to apply for a working visa. trouble is, none of the illegals are going to "take advantage" of a program that starts with paying $10,000 in fines and back taxes (minimum), and going back to mexico. I supported the bush plan, and fault the media for distorting it in reporting to the point of failure.

I just hope that someone has discussion on the impact of this lunatic idea on the social service costs in the country. Social security alone is bankrupt already. How will it fare when there are some twenty million (if not more) folks who have not, and likely will not, contribute to the system? Think any of those twenty million will get their mom, dad, and grandparents over here? It is, after all, what they are best at.
