Somebody mentioned it might be a good idea to have a dedicated UK AOS thread on here (skparker I think) so thought ####### not. So if the VJ powers that be have no objection, let's start one.

Right, I've been here for 2 days and so far I've activated/used my nice shiny new Capital One credit card, have contacted Dr Arnold's office (who replied within the hour) and am organising my I-693 stuff to send to her today.

Well, it's a start............

I agree, having a UK AOS thread is a good idea. It will be cool keeping track of the progress being made by fellow Brits. Please dont remove this, please

Well I started my AOS application in January and so far it has being moving along quite smoothly. I sent off the the I-485, I-765, I-693 (just the vaccination part was filled in by a doctor), I-864, G-325A and all the other stuff to Chicago. I then received an NOA at the beginning of March which was quickly followed by the biometrics appointment. Oh and my case has also been transferred to California, which might mean no interview! However, I have noticed that those whose cases that did not get transferred and are required to attend an interview seem to be moving along a bit quicker, so I'm not sure if there is any benefit. I will say though that cases seem to be getting approved quite quickly and there seems to be no slow downs currently.

I think it is a little annoying regarding the I-693 form, surely this should be sorted or at least started when you go through the medical in the UK? Yes I know some people dont have their vaccinations sorted before they come over, but for those who do it make things a little easier. Easier? is anything to do with USCIS meant to be easy?

The email update system on the USCIS website is useless! It shows my AOS case but there is absolutely no mention of the EAD, from other cases I have noticed that this is sometimes the case and you just receive the EAD without any any letters or emails of its impending arrival. As with all USCIS stuff its just pot luck!

Good luck to all my fellow Brits and I hope your next USCIS journey is a smooth one.......

Yes it does, Dawn. And all you need is a SSN to apply. You start off with a $300 credit limit, but if you follow their "3 steps" program (activate and use the card within 90 days, don't go over your limit, and pay in full each month) then after 3 months you get an automatic credit increase. Cool, huh?

i hope im gonna be a 2009 AOS filer. so ill just be a groupie for now.

i do hope this thread gets to stay in this forum. (please please please)

i put jamie's name on my credit card and got citibank to issue you him his very own card for my account. do we think this now consititutes a 'joint account' as far as credit cards are concerned? i did it so that if he has any major issues before he gets here, he will have a credit card on hand to help.

damian P, did you already have as ss#? from previous a previous visa/employment in the us, perhaps?

Yes I did. I already had SSN, bank account, and contract cellphone from my student visa days, so in that aspect I'm ahead of the game.

This is the one I am thinking of getting, I liked what I read about it and its good to hear good news about it from someone that already has one.

We have added me to my wifes bank account, this does not help my credit rating though so I am looking for alternatives to up my credit score. I had a good one in the UK but it seems to count for absolutely zilch over here! :(

I have already got into an argument with the bank manager over till workers dodgy knowledge! She agreed with me but still refused to do anything about my compaint. Any way enough of that, I'm going off track!

This thread is a great idea :)

I sent off my AOS on March 24th, still waiting for my NOA. Sent it off minus the I-693 (sent the vaccine supplement we got from the medical) as despite 2 phone messages Dr Arnold had still not got back to me. I will be getting it anyway in case I get a RFE for it, but this week I have been too wrapped up in sorting out my car.

Gradually getting all my finances sorted out, have my bank account and savings account set up. The bank has agreed to me having a joint credit card account with Charley (not just being a cardholder on his account) which they assure me will count towards my credit score.
