Very ironic indeed!!

I'll bring my bank/credit card statements and cellphone bill!

thanks again and I will cross my fingers for you too!!

P.S. It seems that the Newark office has really stepped up it took me only 4 months to get my interview date,

hope yours is a speedy one too!

Sounds like you're set!

Thanks! I hope I get a date soon, looks like an Oct date at this rate I hope. Which is still 4 months from sent date, so I wouldn't mind that at all lol.

I'm all done! My ceremony was today at 7:30 a.m. I got there at around 7 a.m., and the line was already huge! There were over 1000 people being naturalized today.

Though the reporting time was 7:30 a.m., the ceremony did not start until 10 a.m. They played a video of President Obama e some other "cheesy" things (useless facts that happened on August 19 throughout the years.) The cool thing was to see the spouse of a a local baseball player (Adrian Gonzalez) being naturalized (though USCIS Officers made too big of a deal that he was there...)

The judge was very, very nice, and he actually cracked some jokes in the middle of the ceremony. As you can imagine, the majority of the people were from Mexico. There were people from 98 countries being naturalized.

I am SO GLAD to be done with USCIS! Got my certificate in my hands, and all I have to do now is update my records and apply for a passport.

Congrats to all the new citizens and just-about-to-be-citizens!!! (F):wow:

Today, I became a U.S. citizen!! :D

My interview appointment was at 8:30am and I got called almost exactly on time. The officer was a very nice, soft spoken woman. She had me remain standing and take the oath that I would tell nothing but the truth. She smiled a lot, so I felt less nervous. She wanted to see my green card, driver's license, and passport. Then, she wanted to see a court document that changed my name since my name is different in my old passport (of course I had the court document with me!!). So, she only wanted those four things even though I'd brought basically a whole file cabinet full of papers, lol. Best to be overprepared!! She went over most of the application with me, not asking all the questions but a lot of them. Before I signed it, I asked her about that part that says "Have you filed as a nonresident on your Fed, State, or local taxes?" because I have some state taxes that say "nonresident/part year resident" because I moved between states. She said it's only talking about if you were out of the country and filed nonresident, so she kept the answer "no". She wanted to know if I had signed my application with my regular signature or did I write it neat so she could read it (that made me laugh!). I told her I always sign that way, just not with my middle name. She crossed out my middle name with red ink and told me to sign the other two places on the form and my photographs with my regular, everyday signature.

Here are the questions I got:

1. Name three original colonies.

2. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

3. Name a state that borders Mexico.

4. Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?

5. What are the two major political parties in the US?

6. What is the political party of the President?

I don't remember the sentence I read, but had to write "The people elect Congress" or something like that.

I may have written some of my interview out of order because I was so nervous, I've forgotten how it went! My interview ran for 20 minutes total. It would have been shorter but the officer took a while making copies.

She said I passed everything and could take the oath same-day (hurray!!!) so I went back at 1:50pm and became a citizen!! It was a small ceremony, 24 people from 15 countries. It was wonderful!! :luv:

Congrats on completing your journey, MsAnn, RDan, and tpontirolli!!! Good luck on tomorrow's interviews for mrPuffyBunny and Ella Rose.

My husband is thinking of doing an Infopass to ask about the hyphen in his name- at the interview he was not really thinking that much about it, but now that the interview is over it is starting to weigh on his mind. But if adding the hyphen is too troublesome, he will not insist on it because he doesn't want to cause any delay in his oath.

Congratulations!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Don't forget, he might be able to take the oath and then have it changed afterward if it's not exactly right. After they gave out the certificates at my oath, they asked us to tell them if we needed something changed on them before we left. :star: Just don't wait too long after the oath or they make you pay for a new certificate :o .

Good point, MsAnn, we're just afraid that if he waits till the oath ceremony it might be a big hassle to have the certificate changed. If we did go that route, I wonder if they would reprint the certificate from scratch or just add a little amendment to it somehow? Hopefully it wouldn't take too long to get the certificate back?

I wonder why hyphens are so problematic for immigration documents, it seems to me that hyphens (as well as apostrophes) are extremely common in American names, not like a foreign character. We did manage to get the hyphen on his current Green Card, after specifically requesting it in the Removal of Conditions application package.

My husband feels strongly about keeping the hyphen, because that's how his name has been written his whole life and it will look weird to him in any other format.

Anyway, we're trying to keep a positive attitude, look forward to the upcoming oath, and not get overly stressed about the name! I can't wait to be done with this whole process and have a big shred-fest with our mountain of immigration-related paperwork accumulated over the years :)
