I sent in my N-400 90 days before the 5 year requirement(My GC says I am LPR since 6/28/2004) but I sent in my application on April 2.

Does anybody know how USCIS works on applications sent 90 days before the official 5 year anniversary. I would think they would not approve the application but does anybody know if they do the legwork(finger printing, interview, etc) before the 5 year mark?

We also sent my husband's N-400 about 90 days before meeting the continuous residency requirement (3 years in our case). From what I've read, this is quite common, and you can have the fingerprinting done in advance. Some offices will do the interview in advance, and just postpone the actual oath-taking, while other offices will make you wait for the interview. Ultimately it depends on the policy of your local office.

I've been looking most closely at NYC timelines, and interviews here in New York are pretty much never scheduled within 90 days of application, so I haven't been too concerned about it. If you look at others going through the same office as you, it will give you a good idea of what to expect.

There is more in the letter but it doesn't apply to me...

The only thing I can think of is they don't like my photos so I'll get new ones.

So anyway, I'm at least glad that they didn't cash my check, lol :idea:

Sorry to hear that, MsAnn.

I have heard some people sent out their applications only with the form, check and pics.

And they had no problem to be scheduled into an interview.

But, just like you said, at least they didn't cash your check. :P

I received my fingerprint appointment today for the 25th, I am so mad, I am out of town for 3 days this month for my babyshower, of course that day is the day of the shower in Idaho, great. Had to send the letter back and hope that this won't slow my progress too much.

Well, I've recompiled another application packet :blush: . Since I honestly don't know what led to the rejection of my other one ( :crying: ), these are the things I changed:

1. Obtained new passport photos. These do indeed look better, my face looks small in the others in comparison.

2. Found an old typewriter in the garage, bought a new ribbon for it and typed out my application... this was very tricky but I did it. I wish USCIS would put up a fillable form!! On the other one, I had neatly filled it in by hand with black ink in all caps, like it says. However, I saw that when they returned my application, they had marked out the numbers they had printed along the side and someone had written "NL". This could be someone's intials or it could have meant "not legible"?? I'm just guessing.

3. Took a little bit better photocopy of my greencard, the other was a little bit dark.

Is there anything else anyone can think of I can do? :blush:

MsAnn, one thing I thought of that might help: the N-400 on the USCIS website is fillable. I assume you have Adobe Reader? Or even if you don't, the program can be downloaded for free. You can download the N-400 form from http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-400.pdf and fill it out on your computer.

I really wonder why your application was returned, sometimes their generic notices are really hard to decipher. :( Good luck with the new application, hope it goes much more smoothly!

MsAnn, one thing I thought of that might help: the N-400 on the USCIS website is fillable. I assume you have Adobe Reader? Or even if you don't, the program can be downloaded for free. You can download the N-400 form from http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/N-400.pdf and fill it out on your computer.

I really wonder why your application was returned, sometimes their generic notices are really hard to decipher. :( Good luck with the new application, hope it goes much more smoothly!

It doesn't let me. I can't click in any of the boxes. Maybe because I only have the free version, adobe reader?

It should be doable with Reader... I personally hate Adobe and it messes up all the time, I suggest you try Foxit! PDF Reader. You should be able to do it in there, I did no problems. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/

P.S I got my biometrics letter :P lol sorry excited!!!

I have the free version too, and it works on my computer. Maybe your Reader is a much older version? You can try downloading the latest version from the Adobe site at http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - or try a different PDF reader, such as the one KromiX suggested. You should definitely be able to click onto the boxes and fill them in.
