traveling abroad. what name should I use?

Hi all!

Me and my husband are traveling to Romania in a couple months to have a second wedding reception with my family.

We are getting ready to book our flight and I want to know what name should I use for traveling. Maiden name or married name? My maiden name is still on my passport. My green card is on my married name. this is the first time we are traveling abroad since we got married.

You need to put the name that matches your passport on your airline tickets... so in your case, maiden name. Have a nice trip=)

I would use my Married name, purely to make getting back into the USA easier (since its on the greencard), take your marriage certificate with you to prove that you are who your passport says you are.

Though I will be interested to see the replies as this is another thing that has been confusing me recently.

Whichever option you choose , take your Marriage Certificate.

that's kinda tricky cuz most airlines want the ticket to match the passport, but for re-entry that could pose a problem..u should def travel with your relevant docs...marriage lic included.

I totally agree with you. I don't think it is gonna problem though.

Because Customs swipe your GC like a Credit Card, so they can see everything.

For Airliners, just show your passport, make sure you buy your ticket under Maiden name.

Btw, this last name changing for women messes so many offices up.

It is a problem by itself !.... You can see these kind problems at DMV & especially IRS !.....

yeah i know...it'd just be interesting cuz u know how they are at the POE....i had an i-551 stamp and they pulled me aside askin questions so i always feel like its the officer that you meet who determines how much of a hard time they give you.

The difference in names is not a problem at all. I have travelled many times over the past 2.5 years with my passport in one name and my greencard in another. It has never been a problem at both land and air POE's. Like the others say, just make sure your ticket is in your passport name. Have a nice trip.

I've also traveled several times with the different names, and it's no problem at POE. Since I have 5 years left on my passport, I don't think I'll even bother paying to change my name on it, as everything's fine with a different GC name but ticket name and passport name the same.

It says something like "Mrs. Jones is also known as Mrs. Smith." We also had an Apostille added to our marriage license. She takes the original marriage license and Apostille with her on her trips. She uses her GC to get back into the US. She has never been asked to see her marriage license, but one never knows who is going to ask, so she is prepared.

How did you change the name in the passport?I am from Romania and from what I understand I have to go to Washingon Embassy,because this is responsible for Louisiana state.

Besides,I don't have my marriage certificate transcribed in the Romanian registers...because we didn't know we have to do that within 6 months after marriage.

and how long did it take to change it?

what about apostile ?where did u do that?

after you put this apostile on the certificate,were you able to change the name in passport or vice-versa?
